Guys I know I'm skipping around alot and honestly I feel like you guys will understand why soon enough ;)"Tomorrow is the Peprally which I'm sure, most of you are excited for" Mr. Wright smiles and nods his head toward the class.
"But" he holds up a finger, "some of you aren't excited at all and will find ways to entertain yourselves by sneaking around the college or heading to the beach"
Bits of laughter echo around the room.
Violet leans toward me, "I have the list of things for the pep tomorrow" she whispers.
"Of course you do" I whisper back and her face brightens.
"Which is completely fine but out of line so by all means" he stands and walks over by the cart, "now everyone grab your things so we can head out"
Everyone moves at the same time to grab the things they think they might need for the outdoor project. Violet and I get up last, behind everyone else in line. We grab a couple things left and head out into the hall with everyone else.
Mr. Wright leads the students down the hall, to the front door and out pass the parking lot. We hit the sand about thirty feet after and everyone splits into whomever they want to be partnered with. Of course, Vi and I stay together.
"So how did you get the list? How do you get these things?" I ask her as we get closer to the water. I miss it, just the sounds of the waves crashing and the color of it. How far out it looks and the difference in color when it meets the skyline.
"Beside that fact that they do the same thing every year, you know my dad is best friends with the Dean" she struggles to remove her shoes and leans on me for support.
"Oh that's right, sorry. I forget, anyway what's the deal? What's this list consist of?" I ask her.
"Um, let's do this first and then we can discuss it" she smiles.
I shrug, "fair enough"
We spend the next several minutes looking for things to study. I used the graduated cylinder to take some of the water that washes up onto the sand. Then I use one of the droppers I have to collect some of that water. I pour the water back out and collect some of the sand.
"Hey Kat, come here!"
I stand and head over to Violet, "I found a sand dollar, look!" She points to the sand and theres a flat piece sticking out of the nude colored sand. I run my finger over its back, it feels rough on some parts and smooth on the other. But then it starts to move.
"Um Violet, I don't think it's a sand dollar" I tell her and she looks at me before we lean down to get a better look.
It shoots sand into the air and we both jump back a couple feet, "ew its spitting sand"
We both laugh aloud which draws attention.
"Its just a clam Vi, better luck next time"
"But I was hoping it was a sand dollar, I have never found one of them" her face goes sad.
We continue to look at it until it buries itself in the sand. I choose the opportunity to ask her what she came up with.
"So I have some seaweed" she holds up a flask stuffed with the green substance, "and I also found this cool rock"
I nod as she uses the tongs to carefully pick up the colorful rock she stuffed into a cloth.
"Its a crystal" I tell her as I examine it. Its filled with iridescent colors which change in the light from different angles.
