"Come on Kat before we are late" Violet whisper yells at me from outside the doorway.I hold up a finger and mouth one second.
"Yes Mom, everything's fine now. The doctor left some pills for my head and that was all he said everything was fine. I am fine" I forced a smile as if she can see me.
I had absolutely no intention or any idea of why what happened yesterday happened. I felt bad and I didn't want to admit to myself or anyone else that I just wasn't okay. This morning I felt completely fine and I was ready for classes. Right now, that's where we were supposed to be heading. Violet didn't want to be late but my Mom had called just as we were about to head out.
"Okay, I'll call you later and let you know. Tell Dad and Macy and Kevin that I'm fine" I said through the phone. I pulled the bag up onto my shoulder even more since it was slipping. I looked at the door again and Vi stood with her arms folded, her feet tapping against the floor and her eyes closed with her head facing the ceiling.
"I have to go, I love you" I finish telling her. She tells me the same and hangs up the phone. I shake my head before heading toward the door. I step into the hall and grab the door handle to close the door but something stood out to me just before I did. The vase of roses.
I looked at them, smiled and shut the door.
Even though I still hadn't figured out just yet who brought them, my mind still couldn't give up the fact that it could be Levi.
"Sorry" I tell Violet as we begin to head down the hall to the steps.
"Its okay, everything okay with your Mom?" she asked.
"Yeah, shes okay. Shes just worried more than usual, that's all" I force a smile.
I feel bad for lieing to her. Not about what happened yesterday but about Levi. He's no longer here and she thinks we are still together when we definitely aren't. I don't know where our relationship stands actually, I just assume we aren't together anymore.
We step into the lobby of the building and walk past the lot of students out in the hall. Some head for the cafe, some head for the courtyard and some heading toward class. I spot Ruby at her desk talking to a group of students.
So much for being the only one to stop and talk to her
"What?" I look over at Violet. I must've spoke out loud.
"Nothing, Vi where did you sleep last night?" my eyebrows came together.
"I slept in Monica's room" she smiled, "don't worry you didn't miss anything special, I was literally up all night and-" she stops and I look at her.
We step into the first class of the day and head toward our seats.
"And what?"
She lowers her voice and whispers, "Monica snores"
We both start laughing and I shake my head. Not something I would expect to come out of her mouth, especially not about Monica.
The door to the room opens and the teacher comes in pushing a big silver shiny cart with a whole bunch of items on them. From my seat I can see some water utensils and some shovels and pales, but I have no idea what Mr. Wright is going to do with this stuff. Or what we are.
"What the hell is that?" Someone yells from the back of the class and other students laugh including Violet.
"So glad you asked but another curse word in my class and I'll shove a bar of soap in your mouth Mr Wethers" the teacher gives a reassuring smile.
