The Happiness Of Tragedy

Chapter 19

"Oh my god, Violet you ratted me out?" I said while we were walking toward the table we all sat at in the courtyard, trays in our hands.

"I'm sorry, I had too. I was so excited to tell Ali and Monica" she had a guilty look on her face.

I rolled my eyes, "Hey Ali I-"

"No, I want you to sit and talk" she told me as we arrived at the table.

So I did, I told them about everything that happened in calculus, their eyes snd ears wide and just like Vi, Monica and Ali were pissed at the end of the story. More or so Ali.

"That bitch!" Ali shouted, and practically got stares from everyone. It was the second day and I just realized how many people were in the courtyard. It was a giant courtyard and all the students were out.

I looked around, there were some familiar faces and some weren't. I spotted Victoria and her pack of dogs. There table was far at the other end, thank god, but it was like I could hear them over here. Then I continued to scan my eyes until they landed on a gray pair. He was so handsome sitting there talking and laughing with his group of friends. Then he stopped and looked straight into my eyes.

But I broke the stare, turned around so fast that I almost knocked my tray over.

Jason was eating a hand full of grapes and laughing at something Ali was saying, "Kat are you listening?"

"Yeah sure" I picked up the apple I had and took a bite.

"How can you sit here Jason?" I asked him.

He laughed a little, "it's cool. I don't mind. Plus that's how Ali was when I first layed eyes on her" his dreamy eyes looked at her,  he went in for a kiss on the cheek.

Then he got up and left, "Kat we are not done with you. Tell me, is he in the courtyard right now?" Ali said.

The butterflies in my stomach fluttered there way to every inch of my body.
"I don't think so" I said immediately.

"Or maybe he is" Monica says.

I looked at the door to go back inside the building and out came Head Master Warren, his hands behind his back and his head up like he's looking for something. Then he put his hands down and I could see he had a mic.

He put it to his mouth, "Katerina Anderson" he said. I went back to eating but then everyone outside got quiet. Wait a minute, he said my name.

"Katerina Anderson, please report front and center" he announced.

I stood up, "Kat what's up?" I heard Ali say, then I picked up my bag and walked toward Warren. Not looking back, I already could tell everyone was looking at me.

"Well Ms. Anderson", Warren said, "I know this may be a bit of a shock to you but your face is in the news paper"

Oh. My. God. My hands begin to sweat. I slowed my steps and Warren put his hands on my back so I could keep up with him.

"We know how you must feel. I'm sorry about what happened at your old school" he says. I could barely make out his voice because the blood had rushed to my ears.

"But...how?" I whispered, more to myself then Warren. We arrived at his office and I used the arm of the chair to sit down. I was breathless. How could this happen?

"Well, I'm not sure but I called your parents and they will be here tomorrow. It's a good things its Friday, so you wont miss any classes on the weekend. It's your decision if you wanna skip today's classes or not"

I need time to think, I need to leave and talk a walk or sit in my room for a minute or two. Do the other students know about the paper? Have they seen my face next to my attacker? What if this changes the way people see me or the way Monica and Violet see me? I didn't even get a chance to talk to Levi again.

You can handle this Kat, this is college not high school. Skipping classes will mean a hold back on work and there's no one I know in my calculus class except for the fact that I talked to Levi. Would he pay attention?

I swallowed and stood up, "No" he looked at me with a shocked expression, "I'm okay, I can handle my classes"

"Are you sure? Your parents said it would be better if I let you skip classes"

"No, if its okay with you I would like to get to class now" I told him, forcing a smile.

"Alright, well we've been here for a while. I'll right your pass when this class is over" he said

We've been here that long? I must've blacked out. That means when I leave from here, I'll be heading to calculus. Great. I have to look at Levi and deal with Victoria. There's no telling what's going to happen. Just don't say anything to anyone Kat and they won't suspect a thing.

Stepping into Calculus, I saw that everyone was kind of quiet. Then they saw me and they immediately started whispering.

Shit. They know

There goes my first semester.

I headed toward my seat and of course Levi was there but my seat wasn't empty. Victoria was sitting her butt in my seat and her pack of dogs were around the table.

  I rolled my eyes. Then I headed toward the seat she was in yesterday that wasn't too far from mine. I sat back in the chair and didn't turn around. So much for getting to know Levi. Out of the corner of my eye, he was laughing and talking with her and the other girls.

"Hey Kat", I heard her say but didn't turn around, "what's it like being a victim of assault?"

I turned to her, "why don't you come over here so I can show you what it's like" I said through gritted teeth.

"Ms. Anderson have a seat. Victoria, another word from you and I'll have security walk you to Warren's office" Ms Johnson said.

She was pissed after that. For the rest of the class, I tried my best to stay focused. I didnt get my seat back either and I didn't care. If Levi really cared about me he would've said something to Victoria but he didn't.

I was the last to leave the class and Ms Johnson told me she was sorry for what happened in high school. I gave her a smile and left.

When I started walking to my dorm, a bunch of people were shouting and came running up the hall. I shook my head and kept walking toward them but then I realized  they were coming straight for me. My eyes widened in shock.

When they reached me, they started asking so many questions. What happened to you in high school? What did you do at the time? Who was he? Did you know him? Why did he attack you? I'm sorry for what happened, are you okay?

I saw Monica and Violet in the crowd and I was so confused. This is why I didn't want people to know what happened and now they do.

Someone  grabbed me around the waist,  picked me up and took me outside and I didnt realize who it was until they put me down. At least we were away from everyone else.

I pushed them away. Breathing hard I said, "Levi?"

He just looked at me.
