Secrets

Dane's POV

Natatakot ako.

Natatakot ako sa nangyayari ngayon.

Sino kayo yung lalaking 'yun? Wag lang siyang magkakamaling hawakan muli ang anak ko. Magkamatayan na at lahat, hindi ko hahayaang dumapo pa ang mga kamay niya sa anak ko.

"Are you really okay, love?" tanong ko kay Nate.

"Yes, Nanay. You're the one who's not okay here." sagot niya

"Of course, Nanay is so worried. Love, hindi ko kayang may manakit sa'yo." sabi ko habang nakatuon parin ang mata sa daan.

"I will not let them, Nay. So don't worry na ha." sabi ng anak ko.

Lumuwag naman ang loob ko sa sinabi niyang okay lang siya.

Kinakabahan ako sa mga nangyayari ngayon baka may kinalaman ito sa pamilya ni Edrake. Sila lang naman ang tanging magiging may koneksyon dito eh. 'Wag naman sana.

Ayokong malayo kay Nate kaya gagawin ko ang lahat para pigilan kung ano man ang pinaplano nila ngayon.

Natapos na namin ang homeworks ni Nate. Ngayon, pinapatulog ko na si Nate. May kailangan pa kasi akong asikasuhin regarding the financial statements sa Construction Firm nila Shar at Laurice. Nang makita kung mahimbing na ang pagtulog ng anak ko ay agad naman akong tumungo sa table ko.

Binuksan ko kaagad ang laptop ko at sinimulan ang pagreview at pag analyze sa Financial Statements nila. So far, their Construction Company is doing good. And the work of their Accountant and Internal Auditor is commendable. Nakakahanga kasi clear at concise lahat ng information at data. No wonder they are the leading Construction Firm here and also abroad. Napakahusay at napakagaling ng trabaho.

Many audit strategies are popping inside my mind. Ganito ako 'pag alam ko na maganda ang trabaho ko. Parang gumagana ang mga nagtatagong ideya sa utak ko kayat everything is working so far.

Their secretary contacted me na by next week or end of this month eh mamemeet ko na ang Auditor nila. I was quite excited kasi gusto ko siyang puriin sa napakagaling niyang trabaho. That simple recognition is a big part of our profession, minsan ka lang kasing makatanggap ng mga ganun, kaya I will give him or her one.

I was busy reviewing their papers when my a message popped on my phone. Agad ko naman itong kinuha at binuksan ang message.

Napangiti naman ako sa kakulitan ng lalaking 'to. Hindi ko man maintindihan hanggang ngayon ang namgyayari sa kanila eh mabuti na rin yun.

Akalain mong ang kaibigan kong si Quen ay matatali na finally kay Liz. I'm so happy for them, really happy. Siguro, isa ako sa mga taong nag root na maging sila. At ngayon nga natupad na 'yun. I'm hundred per cent sure na they will have a beautiful and happy family.

Nagreply naman ako agad signifying my approval sa kanila. Buti na rin na makakasama ko si Don dun, atleast may makakausap ako. Aside from Quen's parents and Don, wala na siguro akong makakausap dun.

Biglang tumunog naman ang cellphone ko. Bilis talaga magreply ng mokong na 'yun.

Agad ko itong binuksan at napatigil ako sa nakita kong text message.

Kinabahan ako bigla.

Morning came and I know this is the day. Inihanda ko naman na ang sarili ko. Alam kong hindi ito magiging madali pero atleast kakayanin ko.

Natigilan talaga ako sa text message na natanggap ko kagabi kaya nagreply akong magkikita kami maliwagan ang lahat ng tanong.

Matapos kong mahatid si Nate sa school niya at hinatid ko pa siya sa mismong classroom niya, baka kasi bumalik na naman ang tarantadong 'yun, pumunta na ako kaagad sa meeting place. It's a café near my office atsaka sinabi ko na rin kay Thea to clear all my appointments for the whole day, buti nalang walang naging problema.

As I was entering the shop, agad ko siyang nakita sa pinakasulok na banda ng coffee shop. Nakakapanibago parin lahat lahat. Nung nakita niya ako ay binigyan niya lang ako ng isang tipid na ngita, I know parang upset siya dahil hindi ko man lang ipinaalam pero I know this is the purpose of this meet up.

"How are you?" tanong niya

"I'm fine." tipid na sagot ko.

"You really is?"

"Well, not perfectly fine but at least." ngumiti naman siya.

"So Dane, I will get straight to the point with you. Why?" diretsong tanong niya

Napatigil naman ako kasi medyo nabigla ako sa tunog ng pananlita niya. Parang disappointed ba frustrated siya dahil hindi ko ito ipinagpaalam sa kanila.

"Laurice, I apologize ..." napabuntong hininga muna ako kaya hinawakan niya ang kamay ko giving me a sign to continue.

"I know that you understand me why I chose to keep this secret for me and my family. I know it's a selfish act but please do understand my reason. I'm afraid at that moment with Sir Kevin, he said that I should not bother coming back to your lives for the benefit of everyone. So I do what he said, that's why I hid my pregnancy and my son for seven years because if I will let you all know about it, there is a tendency that he will take my child away from me. You know what he's capable of and I'm afraid that he will do that." I cried kasi di ko na mapigilan ang emosyon ko. By just thinking of it, natatakot talaga ako. Ayokong malayo sa anak ko.

"I understand you, Dane. But please know that I will try my best to protect you and your son now, I will do everything to do that. I'm sorry if I bothered you few days ago with my investigator. I got curious with your life seven years ago and so I tried to hire an investigator to get information. I'm happy that I have a nephew now. Mom will probably happy if she'll know this. I can't wait to tell her."

"Laurice, can I ask you a favor?" I said

"Anything, Dane."

"Can you please keep this as a secret at the moment? I would be glad too if they'll find out but I'm afraid of the thought of it. I will just make sure that Sir Kevin wilk not do anything to harm my family. And also if Edrake will know about this, maybe he'll be obliged to us. And I don't want that to happen." I pleaded.

"Okay, Dane. But I assure you one thing, Dad is a changed man now. He seems afraid that Mom will proceed with their divorce if he'll do another stupid act. So, don't be afraid of him. Besides, I'm here to protect you." sabi niya.

"I'm happy that we've met you Dane. And I hope and pray that everything will be fine with you and Edrake soon." dagdag niya.

"Me too. But let's just wait for the right time, let's just savor the moment right now." I smiled saying those. And then she hugged me tight.

"Maybe I can invite you tomorrow at our house, how was that?" I asked

"That's a good idea. I can't wait to see my baby boy." nakangiting sabi niya.

"Thank you, Laurice."

"No, thank you Dane for bringing an angel to our lives." sabi niya na nagpasaya sa puso ko.

At least for now, nawala na ang pangamba ko. Sana tuloy tuloy na. Sana.
