I leaned against the wall of the locker room building just underneath the football bleachers as I waited for my best friend. Classmates passed by cheering and hollering with huge smiles on their faces. We just won the game. It's a good enough reason for me to be happy as well, but I'm not. All I can see is the pissed off look Asher had on his face when Coach pulled him out of the game on the last play and the new kid help score the winning touchdown.
The door swung open before Asher walked out with his hair wet and matted. He changed into a pair of basketball shorts and his football hoodie, his last name was printed above the number 83, and his matching football duffel bag hung over his shoulder. I pushed myself off the wall and walked beside him, trying to keep up with his pace. I didn't say a word as I felt the anger and frustration radiating off his body.
He pulled out his keys from his pockets before his Jeep made a beeping sound, signaling he had unlocked the Jeep. We both got in the Jeep, except he slammed his door shut. He stared out the window before he let out a growl and started hitting the steering wheel. I sat there and watched him. I fought the tears that wanted to come out, but I couldn't let him see me. I had to be strong for him.
"He has to go," he puffed as his chest rose up and down quickly. He had stopped hitting the steering wheel. Instead, his hands were wrapped around it tightly, making his knuckles turn white.
"I agree." My answer surprised him as his head snapped to look at me.
"Really?" He raised an eyebrow at me. "Miss I'm kindhearted and give everyone a chance."
"I'm not gonna lie," I hesitated, debating whether I should reach out for his hand or place my hand on his shoulder. Anything that would help him calm down. "The new kid can play and he got some mad skills," Asher glared at me, which had me shaking my head at him. "You know it's true. He can read the field. Did you even noticed the other guy was injured? Because he did and that's how he won the game."
Asher let out a deep and frustrated sigh. "I hate that you know so much about football."
I gave him a small smile. "No, you don't. You love that I know football like the back of my hand. That's why you have me in your life."
His lips finally broke into a small smile. Any anger and frustration he had disappeared and I loved that I could do that. I would do anything to see that boy smile.
Suddenly his smile faltered. "I just don't want him swooping in and taking my spot, Y/N."
"I know you don't, but you're a good player too, Ash," I finally reached over and placed my hand on his forearm. "And you have the potential to be better too. You just have to focus on the game and not focus on finding ways to get rid of the new kid."
He let out another deep sigh before he placed his hand on top of mind. "You're right. You're always right. You're an amazing best friend and I love you for it. You know that, right?" He asked as his eyes locked with mine.
I looked deep into his beautiful eyes as my heart sank and broke a little bit more since the last time he said that. If he only knew how much I loved him back and wished he was something more than just a best friend.
I gave him a weary smile as I fought the tightness in my throat. "I love you too, Ash."
A/N: So, I watched All-American last night and I love everything about it. I plan on writing some Asher imagines when I can and have the time. My main priority is graduating this December. So, please do not ask and send any requests as I'm not taking any at the moment.
Lastly, comment and let me know what you think! 😊💕
