Saturday night

After winning today's volleyball game, coach took the team to celebrate at In-Out-Burger on the bus drive back to Beverly Hills. Although I was thrilled we made it to the next round in the playoffs, I was exhausted and ready to crawl into my bed with Asher.

I grabbed the knob and noticed the front door was unlocked. I sighed knowing Asher forgot to lock the door again. Immediately, I heard music playing softly and a couple of guys talking. I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion as Asher never mentioned he was bringing some friends over. Also, I was slightly confused as who from the football team came over as they were still mad at Asher.

I dropped my bags at the door and made my way to the game room. I walked in and saw guys I had never met before sitting on two different tables, playing poker. Even though the lights were on, some wore glasses to help hide their poker faces. I knew this was a serious game of poker and it wasn't just for fun as I saw big dollar bills everywhere.

Asher approached me with a huge smile on his face. "Hey, baby."

I pulled back before he could kiss me. "What the hell is this?"

"I invited some friends over to play some poker."

"Friends?" I asked as my eyes scanned every guy in the room. I didn't recognize them and they certainly didn't look like high school kids. If anything, maybe college students.

"Poker clients," Asher corrected himself. "I needed a few bucks and I knew this would help. In fact, I made more than I needed and the night isn't even over."

"Tell everyone to get out," I said between my teeth.

"What?" He asked surprised. "Baby, why? We're just getting started."

"If you don't get them out in the next 10 minutes, I'm calling the cops."

Asher let out a frustrated sigh as he ran his hand through his hair. "Fine," he said as he walked towards the guys and I walked out of the game room.

A little after 10 minutes, Asher walked into my bedroom. I sat up and leaned against the headboard. As Asher sat down next to me, I immediately asked, "what the hell, Asher? What made you think it was okay to invite strangers into my house? And, why didn't you ask me first?"

"I know I should have asked you first, but I was scared you would say no."

"I definitely would have said no, Asher. My parents are still in Vegas for the weekend. It's not safe to have random, money hungry people in my house."

"Baby, I know and I'm sorry-"

"What did you need the money for, anyways?" I asked. "It's not like we're charging you rent."

"I know and as much as I love living with you, I can't stay here forever. I need to get my own place eventually. I have enough for a first and last month already."

"What about all the months in between, huh? Are you going to keep having these dangerous poker nights instead of, oh, I don't know, getting and working a real job?"

"This is easy, quick money."

"It's dangerous, Asher. There's a lot of money at stake and if something goes wrong-"

"Nothing will happen."

"You don't know that, Ash," I sighed. I cupped his cheek. "I don't want anything to happen to you. I don't want you to get hurt."

"Baby, I won't," he leaned into my touch and placed his hand on top of mine.

"You can't promise me that."
