Ellie was comfortably laying on bed, some tv show was playing on tv while she was slowly drifting to sleep. The door bell rang and she mentally cursed her best friend for not taking her keys with her as she walked to the door, barely seeing where she was going in the dark apartment.

She opened the door, ready to scream at her for making her stand up when she was already halfway to fall asleep but as she opened the door and saw her best friend, she was shocked.

When did Nancy get a haircut?

She wondered until she turned the light on.

"Jeongguk?"

"Good evening, princess" he said casually and walked past her, turning the light on in the living room and going to the kitchen to pour himself a glass of water.

"I don't remember inviting you over," her eyebrows furrowed in confusion.

"I invited myself and you should get changed unless..." he stopped to scan her from head to toes, "you want to go with those cupcakes on your pyjamas, which are cute though."

She looked down at what she was wearing, gulping a nonexistent saliva. Of course he had to break into her apartment when she was wearing baby pink pyjamas with pastel cupcakes pattern.

'Well done Elizabeth,' she cursed herself mentally.

"I don't want to rush you but I know how long women take to get ready so you probably should rush," he pointed at his surely expensive watch.

"Get ready for what?"

"We're going to a party, stupid," he pinched her cheek as he walked past her to her room.

"We are going where?!" she screamed.

"To a party. You should really make an appointment with a doctor and get your ears checked," he said teasingly, remaining unbothered until a pair of hands grabbed his shirt and turned him around. His eyes widened immediately as he felt a warm body being thrown at him. He suddenly had a girl touching him in a very weird way.

It all happened too fast and surely hit him more than a gun shot would as he felt her hands on his back, her body pressed on his chest. He stood still for a second, too shocked to even blink but he somehow managed to come back to his senses and carefully wrapped his strong arms around the tiny body. Closing his eyes, he inhaled her scent and started to enjoy the soft gesture, more than he should.

They stayed like that for 5 seconds or so yet it felt like whole eternity. But as soon as Ellie let go of him as if she suddenly touched something really hot (she basically did), taking a step back from him and covering the awkward silence with an even more awkward cough. She tucked her hair behind her ear and looked down at her feet.

"I'll go find something to wear," she said in a quiet voice and almost ran to her room.

Jeongguk didn't say anything, just stood there for another minute. He never thought hugs would be his thing.

No matter how comforting the simple gesture felt, he knew it was wrong. He can't let his guard down and let her in. He dropped it as if nothing happened and walked into Ellie's room, seeing her holding her a short blue dress.

"You're not wearing that," she turned to face the door as she heard his voice.

"Why not?"

"Too short dress means attention of horny guys and I wouldn't like to be forced to beat some asses tonight," he snickered while taking the dress from her and hanging it back to a wardrobe.

"So let's go with those jeans and that shirt. I'll take a shower and when I finish we're leaving," he pointed at some casual clothes, not giving Ellie any time to protest so she just stood there, staring at him and watching him leave her room.

'Brat.'

"Um, Gguk I just...wanted to say thank you for coming for me even though you said I couldn't go," Ellie said in barely more than a whisper when they were finally in Jeongguk's car.

"It's going to cost you something, princess," he said in a low voice, peeking at her.
"I have my conditions."

"Oh, what are your conditions then, Mr. Jeon?" she chucked, leaning closer and staring at the view of his side profile in front of her until he turned to look at her, staring back dangerously long for a driver.

The atmosphere between them changed since the beginning. It was much lighter, yet there was still something in the air which Jeongguk breathed. Something tense.

But for the fist time in weeks Ellie thought that maybe, her brother's demand for her to always have Jeongguk taking care of her wasn't that bad.

"You won't leave my sight."

"Okay..."

"And you owe me a wish."

"What kind of wish?" she asks confusedly.

"I don't know yet, will decide later."

Jeongguk dropped her in front of the house where the party was happening. Suddenly all the previous excitement from going to the party vanished once his car stopped. She became unsure and anxious, making Jeongguk notice immediately.

She really wanted him to come with her. It would be much easier if she had someone with her and she got quite just to having him behind her back almost every time she went out.

But she knew he still had something to get done before he can join her. At least she was thankful he believed her. Or maybe he didn't and just hoped she'd not get herself kidnapped or killed until he comes and becomes her guard again.

This was the time she realised, that even though Jeongguk was being a pain in the ass sometimes, it was nice to have someone to protect her, even when he maybe didn't want to. But through the time Jeongguk somehow became her guardian and made her feel safe whenever he was around. His company soon became kinda fine, mainly after their hang out in McDonalds.

And maybe he was the one she needed to be protected from, but who knew at that time.

"Jeez Cooper, please just don't get yourself killed, okay?" he wanted to repeat one more time before she leaves his car.

She nodded and said goodbye before finally getting out of his car.

He watched her leave and regretted promising Yoongi he'd come to meet him but he needed to trust her. And he did trust her. It were the horny men he didn't trust. He watched her enter the house and she waved at him for the last time. He then started his car and left her to handle the party alone.
