It was a grey, slow morning.

Ellie woke up to another day. Day after the storm, it was supposed to be calmer, the end of darkness and return of the sun which would light up the world.

But as she is looking out the window, she isn't sure if the sun will rise ever again.

The world behind her door seemed to stop. People are just passing by each other with umbrellas in their hands, awaiting the rain which isn't about to come.

She tried to clear her thoughts, to be able to think properly, but the calmness outside couldn't compare to the storming chaos inside her head.

She failed, she knows she did, she let herself act without thinking. And so she was alone again, left to deal with too many emotions burning inside her chest.

When Jeongguk wakes up, the other side of the bed is cold.

Empty.

He opens an eye to look at the clock, telling him that it's past eight. There's no more lingering warmth beside him, the bed no longer dipping from the weight. He knows Ellie must have been gone for quite some time now.

Jeongguk would have thought he had imagined everything if not for the slightly wrinkled bed sheets and the aching feeling in his chest. And the smell. It was all over the room. Lavender.

Flipping over to lie on his stomach, he spreads his limbs out to reach the corners of the bed. Feels the off-balanced heat of the soft sheets below his skin, one side much warmer than the other.

There's a familiar fragrance coming from the fabric on the cooler side, staining the air and the atmosphere surrounding him. Jeongguk inhales deeply. It smells of lavender and spring. A smell long connected with the idea of home.

He exhales, eyes fluttering shut as he lets the image of her return to his mind. Vivid and precious as she is - as she will always be.

Later, after long hours spent waiting for her, he finally heard the click at the door. His body reacted on its own, jumping from the couch and rushing over to the entrance door.

"Jeongguk?" Ellie's eyes immediately widen as she sees the boy appear right in front of her the moment she opens the door. She wasn't ready to meet him right now.

"Where were you?" Jeongguk spills the words quickly, not giving her any time to back away. "You weren't at school."

"I went to my old apartment," she mumbles, sure he will make a scene because of this.

"Why the hell would you go there, El?! And why didn't you take your phone? It's dangerous, they probably still have the building monitored," the words come out much firmer and louder than he wanted, something that happens to him when he's confused, and this situation made no sense to him.

Confused and scared. Feelings Jeongguk never had to deal with before her. After her, those are both on daily bases.

Jeongguk pulls her phone out of his back pocket, bringing it to her sight and he doesn't fail to notice how fast her expression becomes anxious.

She instantly takes a step closer and tries to grab it out of Jeongguk's grip.

"What did you do with it?!" she screams but backs away right after, realizing how badly she just overreacted, earning a disconcerted look from Jeongguk.

"What? Why would I do anything with it?" he asks while his eyes scan her and try to see what was hidden behind her expression. He'd have to be blind not to notice how tense she suddenly became.
