"They are such kids, I can't believe they are all in their 20's. Damn, you all are so old," Ellie chuckles right after they ended the call with the maknaes.
"We are not old. You are just too young," Yoongi rolls his eyes, legs crossed as he's sitting on the bed in front of her.
"That's what Taehyung always says," she laughs, thinking of how jealous he always gets about her age.
"Yeah, Jeonggukie too," Yoongi mentions while looking at his phone, not expecting her to freeze and question it any further but he notices once he looks up from the screen.
"What, when? Do you two talk about me?" she stares at him, but he remains unbothered as he continues typing something on his phone again. He probably should have not said that.
"Of course we talk about our little girl," he answers calmly.
"How old is Jeongguk anyways?" Ellie asks after taking few minutes to overcome the fact that she happens to be a theme of their conversations which was quite obvious but imagining it felt strange.
She realised she never asked how old Jeongguk is. She knew he was the youngest, but since Taehyung is freshly 24, then Jeongguk must be 21 or 22 probably?
"Older than you, why?" Yoongi answers, clearly not realising this theme was important to his sister.
"Yeah, I figured that out. How much older?"
"He's 23."
Silence fills the room. Yoongi looks up just in time to see Ellie's jaw drop, which she quickly closes.
He is 23?!
God damn why is everyone in this household so old.
Ellie knew since she met Jeongguk that he was surely at least a year and half older than her, but she didn't expect him to actually be 3 years older. No wonder the man had such natural dominance in front of her.
He was huge and much more experienced and if it wasn't for her stubborn personality, she would have felt like a small puppy next to him.
Well, Jeongguk was a grown ass man.
"He makes me really confused sometimes," Ellie confesses after a while, thinking about all the things she went through with Jeongguk. She wanted to tell Yoongi, she's been dying to tell someone.
From their first meeting, when Jeongguk was convinced that she was following them to kill them so he wanted to kill her first, to how she found out about her brother and how their paths used to randomly cross again.
And how it then started to evolve quickly and there used to be a time when Ellie thought she could really believe him and that they maybe even became friends. But then, one day, it all broke and they were back to where their story started – by hating each other.
Yoongi looked up at her again, this time putting his phone aside to lead a proper conversation. He knew Ellie wanted to talk about this. They both needed to talk about this.
"I know. I've known for a while now," he says calmly, also seeming to be in deep thoughts. And he's been, just like he said, thinking about this for a while now.
But Ellie was confused by what he knew. She stopped playing with her fingers and looked up at her brother, raising her eyebrows in question. She didn't really expect him to discuss it any further.
"You know...Jeongguk is a good kid. He is just not good with feelings," he started and Ellie nodded, even though she wasn't very sure if she understood what he meant.
He moves closer to her and caresses her cheek, looking into her confused eyes.
"I am glad you have Steven. He is good for you," Yoongi says and squeezes her hands before standing up to go take a shower while Ellie keeps looking after him, not knowing why she was feeling upset from their previous conversation.
_____
It's the 4th day of their vacation. Ellie gets nervous every time she realises how fast the time passes at the good times like this. She won't even flinch and they'll be already on their way back home but she tries not to think about it and concentrate on present and enjoy the free time with her brother.
They would go out every night, to walk around the island or run all over the beach while the sun was setting down. Yoongi felt free and more unbothered with Ellie by his side, like he was no longer the one who holds life of many people in his hands.
He took her out on a dinner today, and they got back to their hotel room around 10 in the evening. Every day, when they got back to the hotel, they would spend the time talking about nothing and everything. They always had a lot to talk about.
"I have something for you," Yoongi says suddenly as he comes out of the bathroom, already wearing his sleeping clothes which consisted of black sweats and a white shirt with two unicorns with Yoongi's and Ellie's head on them, a present she gave him on his name day.
Ellie was comfortably seated in a chair, a book in her hand as she was reading peacefully in the hotel room. She looks up at her brother who had his hands hidden behind his back, clearly hiding something from her.
She tried not to chuckle at his clothes as she put the book aside to give him attention.
He was standing in front of her, the hands behind his back moving with something she couldn't see. Ellie was surprised to see him nervous. Mainly because Yoongi was a collected man who would show no emotion for as long as he wanted, so she immediately realised that whatever he was holding, it must have been something important.
"I have been thinking of an ideal opportunity to give this to you, but I am not good at these things so let me just give it to you now," he starts, hands seeming quite unsteady as he pulls the thing from behind him, stretching his hand out for Ellie to see the object.
"Do you remember this?" he asks when she looks at his hand, seeing a small wolf plushie on her brother's palm.
Ellie's eyes widened and she quickly grabbed the toy from Yoongi.
"When did you get that from?"
"I knew you will remember it," Yoongi's lips lift upwards slightly, forming a smile as he watches his sister examining the plushie.
"Seriously, Yoongi. How did you get this?" Ellie talks in a more serious tone now, wondering how he'd get the only toy she remembers from her childhood.
"I have had it this whole time. I knew you'd want to keep it," he smiles fondly.
Ellie pulls the soft plushie to her chest, warm tears slowly forming in her chocolate brown eyes. Yoongi reacts quickly by pulling his sister to his chest, hugging her comfortingly.
Ellie doesn't wrap his arms around him but keeps holding the plushie, letting her head rest on Yoongi's shoulder, sniffling quietly.
She couldn't bring herself to show how thankful she was to have this precious little thing back. She didn't remember much from her childhood nor who she got it from, but the fact that this simple object made her feel so much helped her realise how important it must have been to her.
Clearly, there was more hidden behind the plushie. More than two stripes painted on the wolf's leg which she found later.
