"I know about the tattoo."
"How could you-"
"I just know. I have known for a while now, I was just waiting for you to confirm it."
"Jeongguk, I'm-" Ellie starts but doesn't really know what to say.
"No, listen. I have been wanting to tell you this for so long. And I may never do it if it's not now," he rushes.
She nods, letting him talk.
"I have known about it. That's why I never gave up on you. That's why no matter how many times I tell you that I don't care and won't protect you, I still do anyway," Jeongguk speaks in the softest voice he can let out, eyes the most fragile they've ever been. He looks like he's about to cry any minute.
Ellie just stares at him with her eyes never leaving his.
As she cries, her bottom lip quivers. Her eyes became sadder under the light of the stars, allowing the tears to flow without pause.
In that moment, at the sight of Jeongguk looking so vulnerable in front of her, she understood the depth of pain that had been sitting below his skin.
The emotions in her were getting too much that she couldn't feel anything anymore. She was numb.
"What would he do to you? ...Ellie, please, answer me," he pushes her to answer once again, eyes watering.
"You know what, Jeongguk..." the tears roll down her face, seeing the pain in Jeongguk's eyes.
Then she sees a tear escape his eyes for the first time.
Yes, he was mad. Pure madness was boiling in his veins and he was sure he'd leave no inch of Steven's body untouched if he was there at the moment.
But he also knew that what has happened couldn't be taken back now. And that's what made him scared. It terrified him what awful things could have happened to the girl he loves. There's no longer a point at denying it.
He is over the heels in love with Ellie.
"Why didn't you fight back?" he asks in a broken voice, looking as vulnerable as ever.
She shakes her head, feeling so stupid for being so useless back then.
"He caged my hands above my head. I couldn't move."
