I woke up the next morning to the sound of Ric's alarm. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to wake you." He apologized, kissing my cheek. I wrapped my arms around him in a tight hug. "Don't apologize. I love you." I felt his arms embrace me. "I love you more Violet." We spent the next couple of minutes hugging in silence. Afterwards, Ric got out of bed. "Do you want homemade breakfast or something from the grill?" "Whichever is easiest for you." I smiled, he kissed my cheek for a second time. "Okay. I love you." "I love you too Ric." I giggled before flopping back down into bed.
After eating the amazing breakfast Ric made, it was time for school. Because I had to wear my romper from last night without a bra, Ric gave me a cardigan to wear so nobody would notice. I wondered what Sarah was gonna say.
"Violet! There you are!" I looked up to see my best friend running towards me. "Hey Sare." I smiled as she and I did our handshake from first grade. "Where were you this morning? We waited for like ten minutes." She hooked arms with me. "Oh sorry. I um wasn't home." I was gonna tell her, just not where there were judgmental ears around every corner. "We figured but please tell us next time." Sarah chuckled. "I will, don't worry." We laughed until we got to History.
I finally get to see Ric again. Yay. I thought to myself as I sat down. I got my stuff out as Ric walked into the room. He looked so handsome in his black button down and black pants. I did everything in my power to not jump up and kiss him. "Violet Evans?" He looked directly at me as he did attendance. "Here." I spoke, it came out more like a whisper. I felt his eyes pierce my soul, I shifted in my seat slightly.
"Alright guys, so today we're talking about the Revolutionary War." A few groans echoed in the room but I was excited to see how Ric would explain it.
It seemed like every year, my history teacher would explain the Revolutionary War with the exact same script. All of them except Ric. He made it seem exciting, very different than what I was used to. I didn't mind it for quite a few reasons. He engaged with us, asked us thought provoking questions and never judged any questions regardless if it was a serious question or a dumb one. Before class ended, he handed all of us a piece of paper. It was a permission slip for us to go on a field trip to Yorktown. It was a 4.5 hour long bus ride. I hoped mom would say yes.
