"I don't know where I'll be later
but I know where I wanna be right now. Between the wall and your body."The next morning, Sofia rubbed her neck, trying to soothe the ache that resulted from falling asleep on top of Richard in the small space of his backseat while he quietly serenaded her with Rosie & the Original's Angel Baby. To top it off, her head was also punishing her for the tequila-binge.
As she ate her breakfast, Yolanda didn't miss the glistening ring on her finger. "Why are you still wearing that if the engagement is off?"
Sofia looked at it and smiled at how perfectly it complemented her hand. "Oh, I was totally kidding. The wedding is still on."
Yolanda sighed out disappointedly, fighting every fiber in her body that wanted to just blow up on her. "Hija, come on. You can do so much better than him. Are you sure he's what you want or is it that you see him as your only ticket out of here?"
"I've never been so sure of anything in my life," Sofia stated and stood up to put her empty plate in the sink. "Anyways, I gotta go." She grabbed her backpack and on her way to the door, she leaned in to hug her mom and plant a kiss on her cheek. "Thanks for not throwing a fit about the wedding this time."
Yolanda couldn't remember the last time Sofia had hugged her, let alone kissed her. It was clear to her then that the only way she could even begin to mend their relationship was by making an effort to accept the worst guy she could possibly think of for her daughter.
