"They are totally gonna break up!" Inez exclaimed into her phone as she told Sofia all about her brother's and Daphne's strange behavior at dinner that same night. "You should have seen how distant they were. They barely talked. They barely even looked at each other! And when we dropped her off, she just waved goodbye and hopped off the car. She didn't even kiss him and he didn't even get out of the car to walk her to the door or at least give her a hug or something!"

"Really?" Sofia tried to ignore the amount of hope that was rising in her heart as she heard this.

"I mean, I don't really know the details or what the deal is with them but I just know there's a breakup coming soon. She's a nice girl but I just can't see the chemistry, you know?"

"Mhm. Hey Inez, I gotta go now. I'll see you tomorrow."

"Okay. Goodnight."

Sofia sat there on her bed, picturing everything Inez had just told her about dinner. Whether Eduardo and Daphne were just having a regular fight or actually on the verge of a breakup, she knew she shouldn't see it as a door of opportunity.

When she spent the next ten minutes contemplating if she should reach out to Eduardo, she unlocked her phone and hovered a finger over Richard's name. She needed someone that would stop her from doing it. Someone that would brutally tell her she'd be stupid to do it. Someone that could take her mind off the fact that the love of her life could soon be available again.

But she was weak and her urging heart coaxed her finger to scroll up to Eduardo's name instead.

"Sofia?" She heard him say after the third ring.

Her words got stuck as she shamefully realized she'd just done exactly what she had been working so hard not to do all this time.

"Hello?"

She snapped out of her thoughts and softly replied. "Hey."

"Hey," he said just as softly, stunned to be hearing from her.
