Did I make it that easy to walk right in and out of my life?

-A fine frenzy, Almost lover

The engine of an airplane roared above them, grabbing their attention as their eyes followed it across the sky. "Can you imagine what the city looks like for everyone in that plane? Or do you think the people up there are too nervous to even look down and appreciate the views?"

An uncomfortable sensation rippled through her to know she would soon be inside one herself. "You'll be in one someday and find out," she told him with a slight shrug.

"Yea." He sighed out in a daze. "One day we'll be up there, together on our first airplane experience, watching the city from the window, right?"

Eva chuckled to disguise her sadness of knowing that would not happen.

"We won't ever get on a plane unless we're both there. Promise?"

Eva felt her secret choking her throat, dying to escape.

"Eva?" He worried at her silence.

She gulped, trying to ease her tightening throat. "I promise." The huge lie wrapped itself around the lump, further constricting her airway. . . . .

Eva stared out the small oval window as the plane began to move towards the runway, ready for takeoff. Tears streamed down her face as she thought about that promise she was now breaking. She wondered what he was doing at that very moment. Had he already read the letter? How was he taking it?

However, her curiosities were disrupted as the plane rapidly picked up speed and tilted upwards at a velocity that made her feel as though her heart and soul had been left behind and could not catch up fast enough.

The tears came heavier than ever as she gripped the armrest nervously, wishing David was there to hold his hand instead. The way it should have been. The way she had promised it would be.
