"A lie may take care of the present,
but it has no future."The whole situation wasn't mentioned again. Inez brushed it off once she started to feel ridiculous for having awkward and perverse assumptions towards Eduardo and Sofia. They had been best friends since they had moved to California. They were practically brother and sister; no more than that. She was convinced of it.
For the following days, Sofia spent more time with Inez whenever she was at their house, just to keep her speculations at bay.
However, she and Eduardo would never miss an opportunity to sneak in a few smooches by asking Inez for random favors like: "Shit, I left my backpack in the car, can you go get it for me please?", "Damn, I'm really craving some chips. Inez can you go get the bag that's in the kitchen?", "Inez, you got last year's yearbook? Bring it. I wanna see something.", "Inez can you go see if I turned the light off in my room?".
They were lucky Inez had even obliged to any of those requests, but even more lucky that she had been oblivious to the reason behind them all. It got to a point where Sofia started to feel guilty about keeping something this huge from Inez, of all people. She could already imagine the disappointment that would loom her whenever they decided to go public. In fact, the guiltier she felt, the more pointless keeping it a secret seemed. Two people in their group already knew it and their relationship was going more than well. The chances of it going downhill any time soon seemed little to none.
