"She just wants to be loved
with an honest tongue,
a devoted heart,
and exclusive eyes."

When Daphne met up with her new friends at lunch —if she could even call them that yet— she heard David mentioning something about a Halloween party. He was talking about it so avidly that he only gave her one quick glimpse, as opposed to offering her presence his undivided attention the way he usually did. He jotted something down on a piece of paper as he continued to speak.

"The party is this weekend. My house." He gave Daphne the paper with his address written on it. "You'll be there, right?"

She nodded with a smile. "Sounds fun."

Eva looked away to subtly roll her eyes. Sofia gave out a loud sigh with all the intention of making it known that the idea of Daphne going to the party was a total buzzkill.

Once the party topic was through with, David went back to his usual attentiveness towards Daphne. As they talked, she would catch glimpses of Eduardo and Sofia being ridiculously close.

Sofia would take bites of his burger without even asking and Eduardo would pick at her fries even though he had his own. She would loop her arm around his and rest her head on his shoulder as she scrolled through her phone and showed him some things in it. His fingers would comb her hair back every time it fell over her face.

Daphne couldn't shake that gut feeling that they were more than just best friends but no one else seemed weirded out by their closeness, so she figured she had to accept this was normal behavior between the two.

After lunch, Daphne and Eduardo headed to their classes together as they were right across from each other. Sofia hated that he had that convenient excuse to walk Daphne to class but she had promised to trust him. And she did. It was Daphne she didn't trust.

"Ugh, I really don't want to go to class today," Daphne mumbled just as they got to her door.

"Why not?" Before she could answer, he spoke again. "Actually who cares why not...Let's ditch our last classes! I don't feel like going either."
