"Because no great story ever started with someone eating a salad."

"Are you gonna be hanging out with Richard for lunch from now on?" Inez began to complain, dropping her backpack on Sofia's bedroom floor

"Are you gonna be hanging out with Richard for lunch from now on?" Inez began to complain, dropping her backpack on Sofia's bedroom floor. "I knew this whole situation with my brother was gonna change things! Soon you'll drift apart from us the same way Richard drifted from us."

Sofia smiled, watching Inez cross her arms and pout like a brat. "I'm not gonna drift apart. I just need to be away from your brother as much as I can right now... being near him won't do me any good."

Inez walked over to sit next to her on the bed as Sofia grabbed the remote to turn her TV on. "Whyyyyy Lalo, though?" She sighed out petulantly. "What did you even see in him? He's stupid and annoying as hell. How is that even attractive?"

Sofia laughed and nudged her elbow. "That's how you feel about him because you're his sister... I'm not... despite how much we've tried to pretend I am over the years."

Inez kicked her shoes off and lied back on the pillows, making herself comfortable to watch Keeping Up With the Kardashians that was playing on the screen. She wasn't a fan of the ridiculous amount of drama, convinced that most of it was scripted, but she enjoyed watching the amazing things rich people spent their money on. "So how was it kicking it with Richard and his thugs? Did you miss us at all? You're not gonna Sharpie your eyebrows and tie a blue bandana on your wrist now, are you?"

Sofia guffawed at the prompted image of herself dressing up as a stereotypical chola. "Oh god no! Please slap me if I do."

They both continued to giggle at the image.

"And of course I missed you guys. But I didn't really hang out with his crew... I mean I was there, I met his friends, but I was mostly just talking to him the whole time. We were with his crew but kind of secluded from them... if that makes any sense."

"Basically, you only paid attention to him and he only paid attention to you?"

"Yea, basically like that." Sofia nodded, recalling how comfortable she'd felt there, contrary to her initial expectations.
