The following day, Inez agreed it would be a good idea to attend the school's fundraising karaoke event, especially after Enrique convinced her that she needed to take advantage of such events if she ever wanted to become famous.
"People might bring their friends from other schools and your fan base will grow."
"You are so funny to assume I have a fan base." She laughed. "But you're totally right. I'm in! Let me see if my friends will go too."
She hung up the phone and sprinted over to Eduardo's room, barging in as he sulked in bed, eyes shut with headphones in his ears and hands clasped under his head. He jolted up in fright when she leaped into the bed and pulled his headphones off as he complained about her for not knocking.
"I did. You couldn't hear me," she lied as she picked up an earpiece to see what he was listening to. The fact that it was a Drake song from one of his earliest albums let her know right away that she needed to help him get out of his feelings.
"What the hell do you want?"
"Come with me to the school's karaoke thing tonight."
"Can't. It's a school night," he said before throwing himself back and plugging his headphones back in.
Inez pulled one out as she gave him a look. "That's the stupidest excuse ever but don't worry, it'll be over by 8. Plenty of time for you to get your beauty sleep."
"Ask someone else."
"I am going to ask everyone but I want you to come too."
"Why?"
"Because I need you to go on stage first so I'll look ten times better going up after you," she jested.
He laughed dryly. "Even if I did go, I'm not singing."
"Come on, I'm kidding. I just think a little distraction will be good for you. You're so busy with school and work lately." She omitted the part about him being depressed from his breakup too. "When's the last time you went out and did something remotely fun?"
