"I need one of those long hugs,
where you kinda forget whatever else is happening around you for a minute."After another driving lesson at the same parking lot the next day, David and Daphne stepped out of a 7-11 with a large Slurpee in hand.
As they walked back to his car, Daphne followed him to the driver's side, announcing, "I think I'm ready to upgrade from the parking lot and actually ride the streets."
He only laughed and lightly pushed her aside to open his door. She quickly ducked under his arm to place herself in front of him before he could get in.
"Please? How am I supposed to learn if you don't give me a chance?"
David smiled down at her a moment, not minding the way her proximity made their chests graze. Without stepping back, he looked over at the roads behind and shook his head at her.
"Too much traffic flow right now. I'm not willing to risk you wrecking my baby," he said in reference to his car, though the word reminded him she actually had one growing inside her. It made him take a step back. "Or yours," he added.
Her shoulders fell as she frowned petulantly. He watched her walk around to the passenger side defeatedly and sighed as he slumped into his seat.
"It's just that, a car is literally a weapon. If something happens to either one of you, Lalo will kill me."
"So you're more worried about Eddy killing you than what could actually happen to me?" she jested.
David gave her a sideways look. "Why don't you just wait for him to show you when he gets back?"
"Because that feels like forever from now. And I wanna surprise him with my new driving skills. You haven't told him you're teaching me, have you?"
"I haven't talked to him much."
"Good. I haven't mentioned it either."
He met her pleading eyes and after short contemplation, he proposed, "If I say okay, what's in it for me?"
