Having skipped sleep all night, Eduardo's tired eyes admired the way the sunrise reflected off the bright blue ocean. It reminded him that likewise, the darkness in his heart wouldn't last forever, nor would it be the last.
Feeling a crash of exhaustion underway, he rubbed his eyes and stood up to walk back to his car. Once inside, he picked up his phone from the cup holder and saw his phone was infested with missed calls, voicemails, and texts.
The calls were all from Daphne, so he figured all the voicemails were hers too and didn't bother listening to them. He moved on to check the texts, ignoring all of Daphne's, and read the others.

His cheek stung as he remembered her slap and wondered if she just wanted to scold him for beating David like a madman.

Remembering her rejection, part of him was grateful that she'd had the common sense to refuse him, but the other part of him still wished he had never broken her heart in the first place.
