"Don't you know that it's only fear?
I wouldn't worry.
You have all your life.
I heard it takes some time to get it right.
Maybe I'm wasting my young years,
but it doesn't matter if I'm chasing old ideals."

Wasting My Young Years

Daphne cried the whole way to Jessica's

Daphne cried the whole way to Jessica's. Not much was said on the drive. The radio played softly in the background. Eduardo didn't know what to say other than: I'm sorry. Daphne would only look out the window, occasionally sniffling, wanting to tell him it wasn't his fault. Not entirely. But she didn't have the energy to mutter a single word.

The look on Nick's face, the way his sad eyes had stared back at her the last time they made contact with hers, it was all Daphne could see now. She had seen him mad and upset before but she had never in her life seen him so dejected. She had never seen him cry, and though he didn't shed a tear in front of her, she knew he had to have let a few roll out in that backyard while he kept his back to her.

Being what most considered to be a 'daddy's girl', letting her father down that way and shattering his expectations of her was the most depressing situation she ever had to face.

She felt Eduardo's hand squeeze hers over the middle console but she couldn't remember when he had even grabbed it. As much as she wanted to give him a squeeze back, she couldn't.

Eduardo helped carry her things up as she trudged behind him. Stepping into his room where he set the bags down felt different now. It wasn't just her boyfriend's room anymore. The one where they watched TV and hung out and helped him with math homework before he had to drop her off home.

This time it was where she would be sleeping too. This time there would be no need to rush out and meet her curfew. It was surreal to have woken up that morning to get ready to go out with Eduardo, not knowing that she'd be moving in with him that same day.

"Ya, baby, stop crying. You're making me feel terrible." Eduardo pulled her in to cradle her face against his chest.

"Yea well, imagine how I feel," she muttered into it.
