"Some people may seem like sugar
but are actually salt for your wounds."
-David SantThe next morning at school, as Inez walked through the halls, she spotted Enrique at a distance with some friends. To her disgrace, he caught sight of her too and waved hello. She plastered on a fake smile for him and continued on with her way.
Please don't follow me, please don't follow me, Inez repeatedly supplicated in her head.
"Hey!" Enrique beamed once he dismissed himself from his friends and caught up to her.
She swallowed a groan. "Hey... what's up?"
"Eh, just waiting for school to start. You?"
"Going to my locker."
"Mind if I walk with you?"
"Um, I guess not," she choked out, though in reality, she wanted to tell him to just leave her alone.
Usually, she had no problem being rude that way, but the fact that he'd gotten her a free DJ was the only reason she bothered to feign any interest in being his friend.
After her party on Saturday, she wouldn't really care anymore.
When they reached her locker, Enrique saw the boy's restroom across from it. He told her he'd be right back and she watched him go into the restroom. By the time she pulled her textbook out and closed her locker, he still hadn't come out and she stood there awkwardly, wondering if she was supposed to wait for him.
She thought about ditching him and pretending she hadn't heard him say he'd be back, but as she stared at the little male symbol fixed on the restroom door, an idea suddenly occurred to her.
"Boy's bathroom... urinals. Girl's bathroom... no urinals," she quietly said to herself.
She smiled and searched through her backpack for her pocket-sized Moleskine notebook. She pulled her pen out and added another deed to the list.
#78. Pee in a urinal at the boy's bathroom
"What's that?" Enrique asked beside her.
