"Sadly,
the only way some people will learn to appreciate you is by losing you."After a rush of morning sickness, Daphne was led downstairs by the pungent whiff of breakfast. There were three plates laid out on the table but the first thing she focused on was the fact that her dad wasn't down yet. Taking advantage of this, she hurried into the kitchen where her mom was stirring a cup of coffee.
"Any plans for tonight?" she asked her after a quick morning greet.
"Like what?"
Daphne shrugged her shoulders. "I don't know. You and dad always find something to do Friday nights."
"Not always." Olivia blew on her coffee before having a taste. "Did you wanna do something?"
"Yea, I wanted to ask Eddy to come over."
"Is he off today?"
"He's off at 8 but he starts working full-time at the restaurant next week, so this is really the last Friday I can try and get a hold of him, you know?"
"Oh." Olivia turned to head out to the table to set her coffee down beside her plate. "Well, I don't see what that has to do with your dad and I. You know we don't mind him coming over, so long as the house rules are respected."
That last phrase made Daphne gulp silently. She glanced to the staircase briefly to make sure Nick wasn't at earshot. "The thing is... I was hoping you guys would have plans to go out so that he and I could be here... alone."
Olivia quirked a stern brow as her scrutiny weighed her daughter down. "Alone? For what?"
"To talk..."
Her mom gave out a humorless chuckle. "You want your father and I out of the house so you two can be here by yourselves... just talking?"
"Yes," Daphne affirmed irritably. "Why do you have to say it like that? Like you don't believe me."
"Because I don't believe you," Olivia established blatantly.
Daphne gasped with a hand to her chest in offense. "Why not?"
