Elizabeth finds out that demons have soul mates that are essentially their other halves that complete them. After hearing this she starts to feel guilty for stealing Meliodas away from his and wonders if maybe he resents her for it as she does herself. Also Estarossa is not related to Meliodas in this and is simply a close friend.

Elizabeth kept repeating the man's words in her head.

"A mate is the strongest bond anyone could ever imagine, demons are the only species lucky enough to experience them."

Mates? What did that mean? Why were they so special? What kind of bond could be that strong?

These thoughts continued to plague her mind but not as it would in the same way for most other goddesses. Others would either be shocked that demons could feel, or try to find a way to use it against them. However Elizabeth was different, she was different because she herself, was with a demon in a nearly eight month relationship.

That's why this stuck with her so.

If all demons have a mate, does that mean I'm keeping Meliodas from his? Is it possible for a goddess and a demon to be each other's mates? But he said it was specific to only the demon race.. Does this mean I'm just temporary? Company until he finds the one he will spend eternity with? N-No, he wouldn't do something like that. But... if the bond is that strong, than what if he won't have a choice? What if the connection is too strong and it drowns out the feelings we have for each other. Or worse, what if he chooses me over his mate and ends up feeling empty and incomplete?

She felt each question she asked herself weigh down on her more then the last until she was nearly in tears. That is until she decided to ask at the source. With a deep breath and a rush of courage, she summoned her wings and flew off to where Meliodas lived, a cave up in the mountains.

He of course welcomed her with no problem, but it was obvious based on the look he had he was shocked by her sudden visit.

"Hey love. This is a nice surprise. I thought you were in town today?"

"I-I was.."

Her tone was nervous and shaky as she tried to prepare herself for the next question, and it was something he caught onto immediately.

She felt two arms wrap around her waist from behind.

"What's wrong sweetheart?"

His voice was soft and gentle, so incredibly different from the harsh tone he had when they first met.

That tone was what spurred her to speak.

"W-Well, I was talking to Estarossa and... he said that demons have mates. T-That it's a strong connection between two demons who are destined to be soul mates.."

Meliodas tensed before he released his grip around her waist.

"...What about it?"

His voice was still calm but there was a mix of worry, caution, and- was that sadness?

"I-I just want to know if... you have a mate too. And if you aren't with them because you are with me?"

He clenched his fists and took a deep breath, clearly trying to answer calmly. An action that only solidified Elizabeth's worry.

"Ellie, you don't have to worry about this. I love you, no one else."

"But, if you have a mate how can I stay with you knowing that it's preventing you from being with them. What if you resent me for keeping you from them? What if you meet them after choosing me and realize that they are the one you should be with?"
