I have a feeling a lot of you are gonna be pretty happy over this update. 😅

Zeldris didn't want to look. He didn't want to continue watching after this point, when his friend truly was gone... Yet, he couldn't look away. He couldn't stop watching as his mind tried to unravel why exactly any memories were even continuing after Meliodas was well... no longer Meliodas.

All watching silently as the blond blinked away slowly upon awaking, Zeldris felt his heart clench even tighter as he saw his friend try to get up; only to fall from the imbalance of his wings' disappearance.

"W-Why is my balance so... off?"

His voice was gravely, a mix between what had been familiar for Zeldris and a growl that many demons had after being turned.

Meliodas slowly went to stand once again, holding onto the tree that had been supporting his back previously. He looked... confused. Dazed even. Like he didn't know what had happened only hours before.

After a moment of trying to stay on his feet, the newly made demon fell again from his legs shaking too much to support him. It was a sad sight to watch. Knowing just how disoriented he was and... different, he'd likely be once regaining his bearings.

Experiencing the second fall seemed to make Meliodas realize his own fatigue as he crawled sluggishly to a pond the tree was close to. He splashed his face with water before opening his eyes again and jumping back at his own reflection. He looked... shocked. Completely dazed as he looked again and tentatively touched his hand to the mark displayed on his face.

"T...That's right. I was.... Eva was..."

His eyes widened, flickering back to emerald for only a moment before turning a fiery red again.

"Oh no... Eva! S-She's still there! I-I have to-"

His voice was cut off by another, one similar to his own but more... sinister.

"Don't bother. We gave her up for a much better host."

The blond's head whipped around to where the voice came from, and everyone in the past and present gasped at who was there.

A perfect copy of Meliodas stood only a few feet from the one sitting by the pond. His eyes were hollow and filled with apathy, his body dressed in garments made from the very darkness surrounding him, and his mark similar to the other's was bigger and more defined on his head.

"W...Who are you!?"

"Not who, what. Don't tell me you've forgotten my presence already. Shame, didn't know I was so forgettable. Maybe it's just the fog in your head talking though, it's common after a turning."

It clicked in past Meliodas as quickly as it did for current Zeldris, both paleing as the hypothesis they each created was confirmed.

"You're... You're the darkness!"

"There it is. Looks like willpower isn't the only thing you've got."

"But... I don't understand! Why are you here!? Why am I still... me? I mean, I think I'm still me. I don't... I don't feel any different. Except for the dizziness."

Zeldris was aching to know that answer as well. He wanted to know why Meliodas wasn't corrupted. Or perhaps... why he wasn't corrupted yet in this past.
