Oneshots!

#40 Gaming

This was requested by AnimefanCerberus. Hope you like it. It's just a fun little story.

"Merlin... What is this thing?"

The mage circled it with a hand on her chin as she tried to think of what it might be, only to come back completely stumped.

"I'm not sure. I'll do some testing later but for now we should leave it alone. I'm not sure what kind of magic it is."

They all agreed, trusting the mage's judgment, however soon curiosity took over each of them one by one.

It started with Ban, he would sneak out in the middle of the night to test it, pressing the random buttons and moving the stick. Then King, who had discovered how to activate its magic and allow light onto the black screen.

He would press the buttons which he found made the pictures move, but every time he got the wrong combination the screen would beep and go back to its starting point.

He had studied it for days, but even after all of his practice, he still couldn't unlock the combination.

Then Diane decided to try. She didn't practice or study the pattern, instead she just mashed random buttons. And it worked. She would actually get pretty far before it would go back to that screen again, but since she didn't really try anything new other them mash random buttons, she didn't get much farther then her highest point.

Eventually all of them were playing. Each sneaking off during a different point of day to continue playing on the odd device. They all thought they were the only ones, however when times began conflicting and others would want a try, they realized this wasn't the case.

"Come on Ban you've been playing for ten minutes!"

"Back off fairy! I'm actually getting pretty far!"

"Ban you're literally shooting a wall!"

"Oh, well how was I supposed to know?!"

"Boys, let the experts try."

Diane walked up with her head held high as she pushed random buttons and shot random things. Making little pinging noises when she would make another kill. That is until she got killed.

"Aw man!"

"You know the rules Diane, my turn!"

She pouted as King stepped up, using his strategy to get a decent point before being killed like always.

"T-That doesn't make any sense! I followed the pattern perfectly! That one shouldn't have been there!"

"Sometimes it isn't always about strategy little fairy. It's about pushing things until something works!"

Ban prepared to prove his point by going back up there, but they were all stopped by the sound of a certain blond they had been avoiding finding out.

"What's going on here?"

He had his no nonsense voice and they all knew they had messed up when hearing it.

"C-Captain w-we were just-"

"Playing without me I see!?"

They froze as they processed what he just said and saw the playful twinkle in his eyes.

"My turn!"

They watched as he actually got pretty far. He seemed to know exactly what the pattern was and even managed to do a few combos they didn't know about.

"H-HOW ARE YOU DOING THAT!!??"

The group was in sync in their question as he gave a cocky smirk in reply.

"Because I've been playing since day one!"

"D-Day one!!!??"

"Yep!"

"But you told us to stay away from it!"

"Well duh, I didn't want you guys hogging the system!"

The shot a glare at him that was ignored as he easily beat the highscore.

However... this joy didn't last long.

"YOU'VE BEEN PLAYING FOR TEN AND A HALF MINUTES! IT'S MY TURN!!!

"NO! I JUST BEAT THE CAPTAIN'S HIGH SCORE!!"

"STOP IT YOU TWO ITS MY TURN!!!!"

"DAMN IT AS YOUR CAPTAIN I ORDER YOU TO LET ME PLAY! I MUST AVENGE MY HIGH SCORE!"

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!"

This continued as it quickly escalated. Ban being hit by Chasifol as King took over controls, only to be thrown by Diane as she tried to take control herself. Once again failing as Meliodas said he would send her shirtless pictures of himself if she let him play. Something that she did quickly.

The group fell into chaos over one simple item, as they slowly began to tear each other apart.

"W-Wait!"

The group stopped what they were doing and looked over at the girl trying to get their attention.

"Elizabeth? What're you doing here?"

"I-I heard the yelling and decided to come make sure you all were alright."

"We will be once they give me the controls!"

"Over my dead body! Something you're gonna have to wait for since I can't die!"

"Do you all want to find out why I'm called the sin of wrath!? Fight me, go on, I dare you.."

"STOP IT!!"

Once again they looked over at the girl who they had forgotten end still there.

"D-Don't you see what you're doing? You are tearing each other apart over a simple toy! You all are stronger then this... don't let whatever sorcery this is get to you!"

They thought for a moment before nodding. The captian deciding to make the final decision.

"She's right guys. Let's get rid of this thing once and for all."

"Right."

"We are gathered here today to honor and remember something that was loved by all.."

A few tears were shed, even by Ban who tried his best to stay strong.

"It provided much joy to each and every one of us with its little ping noises when we would do something right and buttons that were so easy to press... But now it must move on to a better place far away from us mortal souls. Goodbye old friend.. and may your journey be safe."

The basket it was sitting in slowly drifted off as the watched it float down the river.

"Aren't they taking this a bit far Merlin?"

"Shh... let them grieve."

The basket traveled long and far, going down into pools and creeks until it eventually found land next to a certain campsite set up.

"Hey Zeldris! Come look at this!"

The demon did as told, leaving his post temporarily to do so.

"What the hell is this thing?"

With a press of a button... it was brought to life once more.
