Zeldris was absolutely furious. The ONE time the family was supposed to get together, the ONE time he was going to get to do something he had always wanted to do with them, it was canceled because "they were just too busy".
They were ALWAYS busy! He had been preparing for weeks, saving up money and doing odd jobs so they could pay for tickets for all five of them at the amusement park, making sure his grades were excellent so they wouldn't punish him by canceling, but none of it mattered. Like always, work came first; and the worst part was that when he got upset about it they simply said "it's probably better we didn't go anyway, this way you have a chance to study."
That was the straw that broke the camel's back.
He had been studying so hard these last few weeks on top of working his ass off, but they didn't notice because they were so busy working and didn't even acknowledge how hard he had been trying to make this happen!
It shouldn't even be his responsibility to try to bring the family together! He was the youngest kid, a fourteen year old with apparently more sense than his two adult parents and sixteen year old brother who only came out of his room for food.
Zeldris felt isolated, alone, and completely miserable. Even more so after his oldest brother Meliodas moved out a year ago. The two had been very close and the ravenette looked up to his eldest sibling more than words could say. However after Mel moved out when he turned eighteen, the family rarely saw him since he moved so far away. Although Zeldris couldn't blame him for doing so since his girlfriend lived up there and their family sucked, he still felt like his brother had abandoned him. Now stuck in this house with no way out for another four years, he had no one he was close to and had been forced to take on the household alone.
Maybe that was the real reason this hurt so bad. Meliodas was supposed to fly down for a visit so they could go on this trip. But now... there was no reason for him to come. Everything was canceled, and Zeldris had to resign himself to the fact that he would only see his brother again at Christmas... about four months away.
Feeling the anger fade into glum acceptance, he tried to take some deep breaths and calm down before going upstairs to get some food.
Only to find Meliodas in there with three bags.
Running over to the blond, the teen tackled his brother in a hug while the other chuckled.
"Hey kiddo! Miss me?"
"I-I don't understand! Why are you here?"
His eyebrows scrunched in confusion before he answered, a small smile on his face.
"What do you mean Zeldy? Today's the day we go to the amusement park, right? I'm a little late, but that's still today right?"
The excitement faded at that as Zeldris relived the horrible news all over again, only this time having to give it to someone else.
"T-They didn't tell you?"
Now worried and confused, Meliodas shook his head before waiting for his little brother to continue.
"We aren't going. They canceled because they have too much work to do.."
The way he spoke was bitter, but Meliodas didn't blame him for it since this happened almost all the time.
"Ah, gotcha. Well... at least I get to see my favorite youngest brother!"
The blond ruffled his younger brother's hair while the boy laughed.
"I'm your only youngest brother though!"
"Yep! Still my favorite though."
The two talked for awhile and laughed as the ravenette's mood improved immensely, however every time he laughed and smiled, it was slightly dampened by the fact that even though the two were still spending time together, it wasn't with the others and at the park he had worked so hard to try to go to.
Of course Meliodas noticed the change almost immediately and tried to see what was wrong, however he didn't get an answer as Zeldris didn't want to bring him down.
"Zel, it's okay. You can tell me."
"I just.... I'm really glad you're here and all... but I wanted to go to that park so badly. I did so many jobs around town, I studied so hard so they wouldn't cancel, I stayed up so late for so many nights, but they still chose work over me. And even worse, they said I should spend the time studying anyway! I have been Mel! I've been working so hard and they haven't even noticed! They don't care about me!"
The anger was back, mixed with frustration and sadness as he tried not to cry. However after the words were said with these emotions in mind, he found that holding back those tears was too hard.
"Hey, that's not true Zeldy. They do care about you, me and Esta too, it's just.... sometimes they get too caught up into the struggles of life and tend to forget the other things that matter to them. And don't ever think you aren't doing enough. I'm sure if they actually saw how hard you've been working, they'd be so proud. I am at the very least. You're doing so well, and I'm glad you're putting in the best work you can."
It helped as he leaned into his brother's hug, but Zeldris still felt upset, because even if it was true, the trip had been canceled and his work was unappreciated by his parents even if they might have appreciated it if they had bothered to check.
Noticing that- even though the tears had stopped- the boy was still upset, Meliodas tried to think of a way to cheer up his sibling only to smile when the idea hit.
"How about this, you're all caught up on school work right?"
"Y-Yeah..."
"You don't have any tests due soon or anything?"
"No."
"And you can do work online if you need?"
"Yes? What are you saying Meli?"
"Come back to Chigaco with me. You can get away for a bit, see where I live, meet my girlfriend, just cool off and have fun. Besides, I feel like we're long overdue for some bro time. The only catch is that Esta has to come too if he's caught up on things. It wouldn't be fair if I only brought on of you kids, kay?"
"W-What? Would that even be okay? Would you have enough space? And what about your girlfriend? Would she be okay with it? A-Also what about plane tickets! That's must cost so much-"
"It's fine, Zel. I have a spare room that you two could sleep in and if one of you wants to get away from the other, they can sleep on the couch. You were talking about wanting to bond right? What better way than if you two shared a room? Also my girlfriend would be just fine with it, she's always wanted to meet you and Esta so she'll be excited."
"B-But the tickets.."
"Are completely under control! That's actually part of the reason I came down.. I wanted to tell you guys about my new job! Let's just say the pay is very good. Which makes an extra two tickets easy to afford. So what do you say?"
The boy smiled before nodding.
"Good! I'll be back in an hour. Go ahead and pack, kay?"
Hope you like it readers! Sorry for my lack of updates, I was going through some things and didn't want to give you crappy writing. Sorry it's a bit different than what you requested Tsuki, but I hope you still liked it!
