#54 Hibernation AU part 2

"Mm..."

Ban perked up from his spot as he saw Meliodas stirr slightly. It wasn't the third day yet, what was he doing up?

"Kitten, are you awake? Oh finally! How do you feel?"

Meliodas sat up slowly, emerald eyes opening instead of the black they were before. It took a minute before the drowsiness left them and the immortal felt his heat leap as seeing the beautiful gems in the blond's eyes landing on him.

"B-Ban? Where am I?"

"In your bed Mel, don't you remember."

The demon gave a confused look before rubbing his eyes and holding his head as if it hurt.

"N-No, not really. I remember going to the tavern to get a cup of coffee since I was tired and then..."

He trailed off for a moment before his eyes widened with realization of what had happened.

"Oh.. OH."

The blond looked alarmed as he said that while Ban was more or less confused. Does that mean Meliodas knew what had happened? And that it had been near to begin with? Why hadn't he said anything then?

"So, wait a minute.. You KNEW?!"

"The blond winced, looking down at his hands as if they had suddenly become the most interesting thing in the world

"Mel..."

No reply.

"Meliodas."

The person in question tensed. Ban never called him his actual name unless he was serious about something.

"Meliodas!"

"Yes okay?! I knew about my hibernation coming up... I tried to drink enough coffee to where I could skip it but I guess it didn't work... oops?"

The blond gave a sheepish chuckle at that as he rubbed the back of his neck. However his attempt to lighten the mood wasn't reciprocated.

"Why would you do something so dangerous Mel?! Merlin told me ignoring a hibernation can do serious damage! Why in goddesses name would you do something so reckless?!"

"I.. thought I didn't need it?"

Ban scowled as he clearly didn't buy thst answer. Something that made Meliodas cave.

"Okay okay, I just.... I got scared I guess..."

That was the last thing he expected the blond to say. The words "Meliodas" and "scared" were seldom in the same sentence unless it was because someone was scared OF Meliodas.

"Why were you scared? If anything, you should've been scared of how you could've hurt yourself by skipping your hibernation."

Meliodas didn't reply, staring at his fascinating hands again.

"Damn it Meliodas tell me!"

"I was scared of how you'd react! I-I was scared of you seeing that side of me, of getting sick of having to take care of the equivalent of a toddler! Of... Of you not wanting me anymore once you realized the full extent of what I am.... and of you not wanting to be my mate..."

Ban was stunned, and not just his words. Meliodas was crying. Actually crying...

Going into protective/supportive boyfriend mode, he grabbed his love's puffy and red cheeks before placing a soft kiss on his nose and one following on his lips. However the boy still sniffled while unshed tears filled his eyes.
