It had been a long shift, honestly one of the longest Ray had been working so far. He was happy it was nearing its end so he could go home and relax and maybe get a shower too. The last stretch of his patrol around the house was down the corridor on the second floor, which should be easy enough as the boss had spent a lot of time there recently. It usually only involved walking past, maybe greeting the boss in the corridor, and heading back downstairs. Easy.
This time, though, the boss was nowhere to be seen, and the faint sound of cries was heard all the way down to the top of the staircase. Ray had learned to recognize those cries by now, and knew where they were coming from. He made quick paces down the corridor, a bit alarmed by the hurt in the whimpers, and knocked on the door like he had done so many nights before.
"Eddy?""Hello?" Came the prisoners, well guest's small voice. Eddt still didn't recognize Ray that much, he had only met him once really. Ray knew him way better than Eddy knew Ray. So it was strange to hear someone call his name that he didn't really recognize. It sounded so soft and sweet though, he couldn't help but answer. Everyone needed a little kindness in their lives, right? Eddy knew he probably didn't deserve it but he still craved it.
"You okay? Mind if I come in?" Ray asked with concern in his voice. He had heard this kind of crying from him before, but that tended to be reserved for when he was asleep. "It's Ray."
Eddy cleared his throat trying to get his breathing in check. He didn't want to look like he was too much of a mess. He was very much a mess though and he probably had some blood on his face with the brutal chewing of his hand. He wiped his face slightly before answering, "You can come in....I'm not really okay though."
It was strange to him that one of Brett's workers actually wanted to approach him and sympathized a bit.Ray opened the door and peeked inside, immediately noticing the blood that was smeared down the side of his mouth. He decided not to mention it right away, though, as the guy looked like someone had punched him in the stomach.
"What's going on? Where's boss?" he asked softly, not understanding why the boss wasn't there when this guy, who he clearly seemed to care about, was so obviously hurt. He sat down on the edge of the bed, trying to figure it out just from the pained look on his face. It was of course impossible."I don't know where Brett is," Eddy just knew that Brett wanted to give him space. He knew a lot of people in moments such as this needed space. As for Eddy, he hated being left by himself. He didn't like himself that much and it was hard to know what he would do in situations of high distress. If distress was what he could call this, he had so many emotions running through him. He was mad at Alex for making the choice on his own, he was disappointed in himself for not being stronger and getting the job done, part of him despised Brett for keeping him here without reason...He hated the cage he was kept in his whole life. There was just so much going through him that put him through anguish over and over again. He wasn't sure if he wanted to lash out, die or cry until he couldn't anymore. Why did his life always come to the point where he was so broken he had no clue what to do.
"My boyfriend and I... well ex now... broke up." Eddy tried to explain, that was the simplest way but it didn't do it justice.
"I'm sorry to hear that," Ray said, reaching out to carefully touch his arm. He could feel the poor guy's pain like an aura, and even though he probably should be angry for leading his boss on, he only really felt sorry for the guy. "You were together for a while?"
"Five years," Eddy murmured, flinching slightly to the touch. He couldn't help it, all negative feelings of the past came back when he felt emotional, and that meant all the trauma his body remembered, even if he didn't always remember.
Ray did not move his hand despite the flinch, just carefully stroke his arm with his thumb. He was happy Eddy was talking, though, and not clamming up like a lot of people would. It would help him in the long run.
"What happened? Is it related to you being here?" he asked, hoping to get some more information. It was difficult to comfort someone when you didn't know what was going on.
