It felt like the world was about to collapse on top of Victor and crush him to dust any second as the street lights passed the windows and the wipers traveled back and forth over his windscreen. But at the same time Victor felt nothing. He knew today was the day he'd learn when he would be alone again, what day, what time. And it was crushingly heavy on his chest. Still, somehow, he managed to look like his usual self on the outside. Not the usual self that Alex had gotten to know, but the usual self his co-workers knew. An emotionally flat, stoic man who drank his coffee blacker than the night and took no shit from nobody. He thought it should be fine, though. He had been alone before. Why wouldn't it be okay to be alone again?
He wasn’t okay, though. That was the problem. It wouldn't be okay to be alone again. Alex didn’t really say anything, he could feel the shift in mood since it seemed pretty obvious to him. Oddly enough for a cold hearted killer he was pretty aware of how people felt. He didn’t particularly understand emotions fully or people, but he observed them a lot. So he could sense things, just not always help. Which was a bit sucky, but it was what it was. He’d figure out how to deal with it or help. It didn’t help that Victor wasn’t much of a person to open up and talk about it, so he’d have to take a shot in the dark to figure it out. At least in this case it was fairly obvious. Not as obvious as Eddy who was an open book. They pulled up the long driveway to the mansion, and Victor parked his car in his usual spot. It felt like he couldn’t breathe, but he still got out of the car and walked around it to open the door for Alex. He couldn’t really look at him properly, though, scared he'd fall harder and hurt more when reality slapped him in the face.
“Thanks,” Alex hopped out when the door was opened for him. Victor was always such a gentleman to him. He was like a gentle giant, if anything. It subverted expectations, which made Victor a very compelling person with all the different facets and mysteries the man held.
Victor tried to speak and say "You're welcome", but when he opened his mouth nothing came out. So he just nodded instead, leading the way up the path once he had locked up the car.
Alex followed him, he knew Victor wasn’t much for public affection so he would respect that. Even if he wanted to grab his hand, he refrained. Carefully he glanced around to make sure they were safe and he was on the downlow.
Brett had just finished placing coffee cups on the dining room table in preparation for the little meeting they were about to have. One for himself, one for Eddy, and one for Alex. Now the only thing lacking was to press the button on his coffee maker. The plan was for the most part set, and he'd just let Alex know and see if he had any additional inputs. A straight forward meeting in his opinion.
Eddy leaned against the counter as he watched Brettt, he really was going to miss Alex too but he felt like maybe he’d be okay. Everything here felt pretty stable and safe, plus he really liked Brett which eased some of the uncertainties he had. He had a lot of uncertainties but they were slowly being forgotten, “Whatcha thinking?”
"Hmm… that I think most everything is ready," Brett hummed softly, running his fingers through his hair. "The plan, and…"
He paused, reaching over to push the button on the coffee maker. "... the meeting preparations."“Are you nervous Bretty?” Eddy pushed off the counter, strolling slowly over to Brett. Carefully he wrapped his arms around the smaller man’s waist. He still wanted to be careful when touching Brett. He wanted to make sure Brett also knew he was safe. Or at least more safe than before.
Brett could feel the initial tension pass through his body when he was unexpectedly touched, but soon leaned into Eddy’s arms like he had never done anything else.
"A bit," he exhaled slowly. "Mainly about how Alex will react to… well, this."“He’ll be okay, we talked,” Eddy spoke softly, “I mean it’ll be a little weird and bittersweet. But it’ll be okay.”
Eddy was careful as he slowly petted Brett’s belly, trying to give small comfort.
