Growing anticipation

Tomorrow was the day where they could be freed from the confined room! Alex had all his things sorted there was only one thing to do: Get through this last night here. It was a simple enough task. All he had to do was sleep and wake up, "Hey let's go to bed."
He looked at Victor with a small smile. It wasn't much but it was better than his typical frown.

"We can. Gonna be our last night, I guess," Victor said, smiling a bit back. It was a bit sad that it was the last night they would be sharing the bed. Of course there was this tiny voice in the back of his head that hoped that their good time together would continue back home as well, that they'd do things like they had together here at the hotel. Like playing cards. That had been fun. Victor didn't think he had experienced something as fun as that in ages. "Too bad we can't stay up and play cards like we did on Tuesday."

"Hmmm, it is too bad. Maybe some other time though," It wasn't like he was leaving Australia tomorrow. They still had time together until then. Alex didn't see why they couldn't play cards again. It just wouldn't be undivided attention, since he would want to be checking on Eddy. He almost died! It wasn't the first time but each time it got closer and closer.

"Yeah, maybe when we get back," Victor hummed, standing up from the somewhat uncomfortable chair and stretching. He would be going to the bathroom first, as per the normal they had established over the past few days. "We should bring the deck, though. I don't think I have one at home. Or I guess we could buy one on the way back."

"Stealing a deck from a hotel, alright with me," Alex was a murderer, he wasn't above petty theft. There were some things he would never do but murder and stealing were little exceptions. To be fair it depended on the circumstances as well. It would be fine.

"Stuff it in a bag before we go," Victor chuckled softly, grabbing his sweat shorts that he used to sleep in and opening the bathroom door. "I'll be back in a sec. Try not to spill the takeaway leftovers again."

_____

He had only been in the bathroom for a few seconds when he heard the soft thump of something hitting the floor, but Victor didn't think it was anything too bad. It sounded soft, and he himself would normally mutter some swear words in his native language if he dropped something that was a hassle to deal with. He was quite surprised to see the thousands of grains of white rice all over the carpet when he stepped out, though.

"Aw shit," Alex grumbled, too bad there wasn't a vacuum in the hotel room. All he was left with was himself to try to pick it up piece by piece. Luckily he had a lot of patience along with his mild anger.

"Need help?" Victor offered softly, getting down on his knees next to Alex and beginning to pick up the rice. He gave Alex a playful elbow to the side. "What happened?"

Alex huffed but couldn't help but chuckle when Victor nudged him, "It just jumped out of my hands I guess."
He smiled softly, one of those smiles that recently had begun making Victor smile too.

________

What Victor didn't know was why Alex dropped the take out, nor did Alex say a word about it. It wasn't something he didn't want to think about or focus on. It was something that didn't seem right to share when everything was so calm. Alex had a long list of issues, born and raised to be a killer. It was hard not to have issues or triggers.
He had simply been eating when he heard something from outside, it sounded like a metallic crunch. Then he saw those red flashing lights that made his brain crazy. Like that the box had slipped from his hands as static seemed to fill his senses. It was broken by the sound of Victor though. Which turned into his "Aw shit." moment.

"I don't think I will drop anything again, " He chuckled despite it not being as fun of a memory for him. Although he knew it held humor from the outside.

"I'm just teasing, I know you won't," Victor chuckled, slipping into the bathroom. In his mind, it had been a pretty funny moment, having to spend half an hour picking up rice from the carpet. Not funny in the sense that he loved the activity. Who loved picking up stuff from the floor? Nobody. It was funny in the sense that it was a memory they could share of something silly they had to do together. Victor didn't have those kinds of memories with a lot of people, and he found it to be special to him.

Alex lifted his gaze when he heard the bathroom door open, "My turn already, huh?"
He smiled a bit as he stretched and came to take his turn.

"Yup, made it quick so we can crawl right into bed," Victor chuckled, not able to help smiling back at him. His stomach was doing that weird thing too, that nice feeling. He really enjoyed spending time with Alex, and he was happy they were going back to his place together tomorrow. "I can switch off everything and go warm up the bed for when you're ready."

"Thanks, " Alex hummed as he walked towards the bathroom. It was time to get himself all cleaned up and to have good hygiene. Of course he would wait until Victor stepped fully out of the bathroom before he pushed himself in.

Victor stepped out into the room, leaving the door open for Alex. He hit the off-button on the side of the TV, and then went to get the curtains properly shut. It would be a lie to say he wasn't excited to get to fall asleep next to Alex. There was something about it that made Victor feel all safe and calm. He didn't think he had felt like that before, and he didn't know why that was. To be fair, he hadn't given it much thought either. He just did what felt right at this point.

__________

The movie was kind of unsettling, Victor had thought when they started it. They had decided that sitting on the uncomfortable chairs wasn't practical, so to save their asses from soreness they had turned the TV to face the bed where they were now sitting with their back against the headboard. Victor wasn't really as nervous as he thought he would be, based on the trailer they had seen to decide if the movie could be worth watching, though. He could feel Alex' warmth next to him, hear his calm breathing, and the occasional comments about the unrealistic murders were honestly quite funny. It was easy to shift just slightly closer as he reached for their bag of chips that rested between them. Just to feel a bit more safe.

_____

Alex stepped out of the bathroom after about five minutes. He was ready to flop into bed after getting himself all cleaned up. He pushed the door open then strutted on over to bed. He flopped himself onto the mattress on his side of the bed, "Time to sleep."

Victor put his phone down on the night stand and turned to him with a small smile.
"I suppose it is," he said softly, chuckling a bit at how Alex basically threw himself on the bed. He felt a bit shy, not sure if they'd huddle together right away or if he would have to wait for Alex to creep closer throughout the night. Or maybe it was him doing the creeping? He wasn't sure, as he was asleep. They had woken up with Alex resting on his chest every day while they were there, though, and Victor found that he absolutely didn't mind. Rather the opposite. He quite liked it.

Alex pulled the blankets around himself, "It is, I'm ready for this."

He was ready for the next day to happen.
