Arriving day

Eddy was standing in the foyer of Brett's mansion, waiting for Alex and by extension Victor to return safely. He sat on the floor when his legs got tired. He was a bit jittery and excited. He could understand that it was probably strange to be this excited when he had seen Alex at Victor's. It was a normal atmosphere too. But now he felt excited and giddy. He just wanted someone familiar who could understand everything without him having to reopen all his old trauma. He enjoyed Brett's company but it was different.

Brett was watching Eddy from the kitchen where he was holding onto his cup of expensive coffee like his life depended on it. It just really fucking sucked to see Eddy so excited to see Alex. He couldn't help the nasty feeling of envy. He wished he was Alex so bad, or at least that Eddy would be just as excited to see him.

He knew, of course, that he shouldn't be feeling anything for Eddy. Brett knew too well how Eddy felt about that, and just the thought made him clear his throat and pull slightly on the collar of his shirt to move it further from his neck.

Eddy glanced at Brett as he flopped on his back like an impatient toddler. In some sense, he was one, "Shouldn't they be here by now?"

He tried not to sound too whiny.

"Another five minutes," Brett said, turning his gaze down at his half empty cup of lukewarm coffee. Meeting Eddy's excited eyes was too much.

"Five minutes is fucking forever!" Eddy groaned as he let his head fall back more, thumping it lightly against the hardwood floors. He wondered what he could say to fill that time, "Did I ever tell you about my first boyfriend. He was an asshat."

That would certainly fill the silence.

"You didn't," Brett said softly, looking up at Eddy. He for sure looked less excited mentioning him, which probably wasn't a good sign.

"His name was Jeremy, I think he was actually straight but dragged me along for the ride," Eddy shrugged a bit. He had been thinking about the man a lot more recently since it was brought up in his brainwashing session or whatnot in the organization. Eddy just didn't really bring it up since he figured it was a long story.

"Sounds like a shitty thing to do," Brett said, furrowing his brows. "Were you with him long?"

"Just a year, but that did enough damage for a lifetime," Eddy guessed it wasn't a surprise that he was crazy. Brett probably knew with his first-hand experience. With that being said it was probably good to remind him.

"I can imagine. A year is a long time," Brett said softly, shaking his head a bit. "I'm sorry you had to go through that. I didn't know that."

"You don't need to apologize, it was my own choices that landed me there, " Eddy looked at the man, "I rushed into a relationship where I hardly knew the man that I agreed to moving in with. In fact I just met him at the gym."

"I guess I just don't know what to say," Brett said, but then turned his head towards the sound of the door being opened.

Eddy quickly sat up, "I'll tell you more later if you want."

Carefully he managed to get on his feet, bouncing a bit anxiously as he did.

"Yeah, sure," Brett said softly, but knew he didn't have Eddy's attention anymore as Alex had stepped inside followed by Victor.

Alex smiled as he saw his big awkward man, he carefully walked over to Eddy. It was as if he was scared that his very movements would hurt Eddy. Eddy didn't waste time though, he strode over, taking Alex's hand with his okay one, "Long time no see."

He craved physical intimacy, preferably innocent in this particular moment.

"Hey," Alex whispered back, lifting Eddy's hand to gently kiss.

Then he glanced at Brett bowing his head to him, almost as if he respected him, "Thank you for bringing him back alive, Brett."

"It was nothing," Brett said with a small shrug. He just wanted to disappear, to go lay down in his own bed, sleep and then hopefully wake up from this stressful nightmare. Preferably in his own bed at age 14 before having fucked up everything with Eddy. He knew it didn't work like that, though, but he couldn't stop his brain from thinking it.

"It wasn't nothing, it's a pretty big deal," Eddy snorted, "Don't need to be modest."

His life may be wretched but he liked the thought of not dying miserably. Alex nodded in agreement as he somewhat nervously squeezed Eddy's hand. He was scared of hurting him more.

"Don't worry about it," Brett dismissed their gratitude, not wanting to hear it. He loved Eddy. He loved Eddy more than his own stupid life, and that was definitely the main reason why he would put himself at risk like that. He loved Eddy as a friend, but also in ways he shouldn't, and it was disgusting to him that he didn't know which of those parts weighed heavier in his decision making. "I wouldn't want anything to happen to Eddy."

"Thank you," Eddy spoke gently, knowing he saved Brett but then did try to kill him. So it was a bit counterproductive. But it didn't mean it didn't make him feel bad that Brett had rushed to protect him. Guilt was insidious, growing a garden in his chest cavity.

Alex watched them, sensing a shift in Eddy's tone, "Is it okay for me to be here? Safety wise?"

"It should be fine for now, but... well, you probably shouldn't spend the night," Brett said softly. "I've got more guys coming in and all, but... yeah."

"I understand, I think it's safer if I don't stay long,"

Alex wouldn't argue although he thought it a possibility that there were some ulterior motives. He couldn't blame the guy though, Eddy was precious. At least to him, and maybe to some other people.

Eddy pressed his lips together, making a straight line. He wasn't too thrilled, but he wouldn't argue either.

"So yeah, I guess I'll leave you guys alone," Brett said with a small smile. He was trying to make his escape. He couldn't deal with seeing them together anymore. Besides, he felt a bit... used, in a way. He had held Eddy every night since getting him out, comforted him every day, and the moment Alex came back he wasn't of any use anymore. "Make yourselves at home. Or well, you make yourself at home, Alex. Eddy lives here, so he is at home I guess."

Eddy watched Brett feeling for him but also not sure what to do. It was kinda a given he wanted to see his boyfriend but also someone who understood the organization. The pain of it. It was hard to know what to do. It was complicated but he would leave it be, "Yeah I'm kind of a freeloader."

He whispered to Alex as Alex nodded to them both, "Well thanks."

"No worries. Come find me when you're ready to part ways," Brett said as he put his coffee mug down. He gave a small, a bit awkward wave before heading off.
