Alex found himself pacing the area in front of the door. Usually Eddy was here by now but this time he was nowhere to be seen? Maybe he just decided not to come today. Which could be very possible but Alex was worried. So many things could have gone wrong! He may worry too much or be too overprotective but he knew how things could turn south real quick.
"I have a treadmill, if you want somewhere to walk," Victor said as half a joke, trying to cheer him up a bit. He could tell he was worried, but Victor always thought nothing was worth worrying about if you weren't sure you needed to worry. Which was why he worried about Alex' worrying, because it didn't seem like he was in a great mood.
He was sitting on the couch, just relaxing while he could. Eddy was supposed to drop by later, pushing him back into his room again so he wouldn't have to watch the happy couple. They probably wouldn't be a happy couple today, seeing as they had some relationship issues at the moment, but it was still a bit weird for Eddy not to be there already anyway."I could but I need to be here in case he shows up," Alex ran a hand through his hair, it wasn't like Eddy to be a no show. Even if they decided they needed to start distancing themselves for the future. They still loved each other now, "It's not like him to be this late. I mean he's typically late, but not like an hour late kind of late."
"I guess not, I don't know him that well," Victor said with a small shrug. He didn't really know what to do with this information, but Alex seemed stressed out about it so he wanted to figure out how to help him. "Want me to call up boss and ask if and when he left?"
"Yes please, could you do that," Alex looked up at Victor, he thought it never hurt to actually check in with Brett to see if Eddy was still there to get some space. He could respect that but he liked not having to worry.
"Of course," Victor said, grabbing his phone from the table and finding the number in his contacts. "I'm sure boss would've messaged if he wasn't coming, though. He's probably just late."
"I don't know your boss that well but I guess he would tell us," Alex could only hope Eddy was just late or Brett forgot to tell them. Otherwise all the worst case scenarios were playing through his head.
Victor dialed boss' number and put it on speakerphone so Alex could hear, figuring it would be easier that way. It rang a few times before boss picked up.
"Hello?"
"Hey boss, Eddy not coming today?" Victor asked, putting the phone on the table while they spoke. He scratched his chin a bit, kind of hoping Eddy wasn't coming. It was exhausting to see him and Alex together constantly.
"Is he not with you guys? He left an hour ago..."
Alex all but freaked out at that, "He's not with us, that's why Victor prompted to call you ."
He ran a hand through his hair shakily, "Do we have any way to contact him?"
Because if they didn't have a way it meant that Eddy could have fully disappeared by now.
"Yes, I gave him a cell ph..." Brett began through the phone, but paused as his phone vibrated, notifying him of a text message. "Oh, that's a text from him. Two seconds."
Victor had a bad feeling about all of that new information. It sounded like trouble to him and he wasn't interested in any trouble.
Alex waited with bated breath to see if Eddy was actually okay or if something went terribly wrong.
It got really quiet once Brett had opened the message, at least until a tiny squeak sounded from the otherwise composed man.
"It's... you're Agent Zero, are you not?" Brett asked in a shaky voice through the phone, and Victor was quickly putting the puzzle pieces together. Eddy had the number 909 related to the organization. Alex had the number 0. The organization.
"I am, Zero," Alex now knew this wasn't good, this was very bad in fact. Eddy would only refer to him as Zero on missions for the most part, he wouldn't ever say it casually in a text message. Also Brett squeaked so a bad sign in general too.
"Shit," Brett said, taking a deep breath that was audible through the phone. "I've gotten a text from his phone. I'll send it to you."
Victor reached over to the table and grabbed his phone in anticipation of the text message. It only took a few seconds until his phone vibrated like boss' had. He paled once he opened it, not sure how to explain to Alex what he was seeing.
"Show me," Alex said firmly, but calmly for now. He needed to keep his cool to communicate well with Brett and Victor. He needed this to be okay.
"Here," Victor said quietly, just handing him his phone. This was bad. So so very very bad, and he knew it. He didn't give a shit about Eddy, really, but he knew how crushed boss would be, how crushed Alex would be, and he was not here for any of that.
Alex went silent as he looked over the message. Observing and reading it quickly
The message contained an attached image, it was of Eddy. His head was forcefully tilted back by a hand in his hair. His lips were stretched around a barrel of a gun, definitely meant to be provocative. Mostly for Alex though since they didn't know Brett slept with Eddy. The look on Eddy's face though was one of anger and determination in his eyes. He would take a bullet unashamed.
"Dear Prince of Crime, we found your dog walking around without a leash. You should keep a better eye on your pets, or they may get loose and sent to a kill shelter. If you want him back, we advise you to return to us what is ours. Agent Zero. We'll give you two days to give up his location."
"They're not going to give you two days, they're going to kill him," Alex went into a monotone voice. When ever he had to deal with these stressful things he needed to disassociate to actually get a job done. He loved Eddy and if he loved him, he needed to be calm to make sure he was okay, "It'll probably be closer to only 24 hours. They're not that kind to let people go. They'd kill you too if you go to do a trade off."
"They can try, I'm heading off to get him fucking now. You stay there, it's clearly you they're after," Brett ordered, not giving a fuck that Alex had no reason to actually listen to him.
"Is that too wise boss?" Victor asked, not feeling too good about having him rush over there.
"It has to be, I'm getting him out of there."
Alex wanted to go too but Brett was right they were after him so as soon as they got what they wanted he was sure Eddy would be dead. He ran a hand through his hair as a nervous tick, "You'll have to do it....I don't know if head on is wise though I'm with Victor on that."
It was hard for him to admit that Brett had to do it because he wanted to save his boyfriend but if he tried his boyfriend would be dead!
"Look, I have to try, alright? I'll get him back, I promise. I gotta go get Inu to track the message," Brett said, clearly sounding like he was moving as he spoke. "I'll... I'll let you know how it goes."
"Boss, comeon..." Victor tried to protest, but didn't really know what to say. It wasn't like anyone could change his mind when he was stressed like this anyway.
"Just be careful, " Alex glanced at Victor, almost as if saying he had to let Brett try even if it was stupid. He knew hypothetically if Brett lived, he would learn and seeing the enemy would give him a better feeling for the enemy. He had to learn and in the meantime, Alex would have to try to stay calm and maybe make his own plans.
