I don't understand

They had long settled down after the snap. The pair sat on Brett's bed as they usually did these days, since Eddy apparently had an aversion to being alone in the one he was held captive in. The scene almost mirrored one of their late night talks, a box of extra cheesy pizza sat between them as they both ate. The only real difference was that they were on the bed with Brett's laptop open that was playing some anime in the background - Eddy had chosen it.
Eddy discreetly set his slice of pizza down on his paper plate. He was having a hard time focusing on eating. It was always a weird thing he thought, but when he felt pain, he lost his appetite.

"So uh, the pizza is good as usual, " He smiled a bit, despite it being a bit strained. Eddy would do his best to finish his slice, since Brett was kind enough to feed him and house him! It was crazy honestly. With that in mind, he had to try his hardest to please his host and to respect him.

Brett looked up from the anime, which was a lot more interesting than expected, and smiled a bit. It was nice to be able to do something nice for Eddy, especially after that scream. That pained scream from Eddy as Ray had snapped the bone, the scream Brett would never forget. He wasn't sure if it was fear or pain that had caused it, but it had made Brett want to puke.
"It's the same kind we always get, so of course it's good," he said with a small chuckle. "You don't seem to be eating much of it, though."

Eddy glanced down at his slice, "Just pacing myself."
That was his excuse. Ultimately Eddy didn't want to be rude, so he would eat it even if he wasn't feeling it.

"We do always get it, I like that though because it's familiar and comforting in a sense, " Eddy went on to say with a little smile. This was very familiar to him in a reminiscent kind of way along with the current kind of way. His brain may be mildly scrambled but he could recognize that he was comfortable with Brett despite some unresolved feelings.

"Talking about comfort..." Brett said, looking over at Eddy's brace. "The anaesthetic is supposed to be gone now, isn't it?"
He knew Eddy very likely wouldn't ask for painkillers, but he couldn't exactly force him to take them either.

"Oh, uh, yeah," Eddy nodded a bit, not sure what to say to that. It wasn't a question that needed much elaboration. It was either a yes they're supposed to or a no they're not supposed to. Not to mention it would also be weird if Eddy lied about that.

"Isn't it like... super painful?" Brett asked a bit suspiciously. He was just worried about him. Eddy hadn't been too good with pain back in the day, but lord knows what the organization had done with him since then. "It sounded awful when Ray... when he.... when he broke it."

Eddy shrugged a bit as he cleared his throat, obviously trying to play it off, "Well it hurts, but it's nothing to really cry about. "
He may have screamed in the moment of his wrist being broken but he wasn't going to show any more weakness now. It was unbecoming and undesirable, no one likes a complainer or a cry baby. Who cared if it hurt like hell, he was still functioning wasn't he?!

Eddy lifted his slice of pizza again to chomp on as a way to avoid talking more.

"Didn't Ray say to not endure the pain, but to take painkillers?" Brett half asked, half stated. He didn't like knowing that Eddy was in pain. Who liked knowing that anyone was in pain, anyway? It was a bit more than that, though, but Brett knew he should be swallowing the feelings that made it even more unbearable to know that Eddy was in pain. Eddy had made it very clear he wasn't interested.

"If we are being honest I kinda zoned out when he talked. My mind was on other things, " Eddy could probably sleep it off, right? It wasn't even that bad, it was only a sensation of being burnt alive and being pricked with hundreds of needles. It would just pass on by, maybe it would even go numb if he was lucky.
