Matt's POV: After walking out to Gallo's car, I smiled since this was really my first chance to have one-on-one time with him since he started at 51. "So, how are you liking 51 so far?" Gallo then looked at me and smiled. "Good, sorry our time together on engine didn't last very long." I then went to look at his car and went to put the magnets on his doors. I then bent down and made sure they were straight. That was the perfectionist in me. Came with the job of being a contractor and former fire captain. Perfection is my main priority.
"Want me to put it on the other side?" I then turned to look up at him. "Sorry, I am a little bit of a perfectionist." Gallo then looked at me and laughed. "A little. Sorry Captain but, you had a specific way of organizing your truck. Hermann has kept it that way just to let you know." I then went to grab the little magnet and nodded as I looked at him. "I did that for a reason. It's so that we can easily find exactly what we need when we are in the middle of a call."
Gallo then looked at me and nodded, finally understanding why everything was organized in such a specific manner on truck 81. "By the way, I want to let you know that I am really impressed in the way you trained Darren. He's a great mentor to me now that you have left truck. We are best friends and honestly, I just love hanging out with the guy." I smiled when he said that. "Uh oh, do I need to tell something to Eric? Just give him a warning?" Gallo then laughed and elbowed me. "I'm not gay. Anyways, I like him and Eric together."
We then both got up and I smiled. "Okay listen, I want to give you some tips about some of our frequent customers. If you ever get an order from Jay or Erin Halstead...they are pregnant and her father is Sgt. Voight of Intelligence. So, you make sure to stay back and not give her COVID." Gallo nodded and understood. "Anybody else I need to worry about?" I then thought about it. "Will or Natalie Halstead. They are doctors and she's pregnant." Gallo then thought about it. "Halstead. Any relation?" I nodded and was about to speak when I heard Jeff Clarke come by. "Yes, they are brothers."
I then looked up at him and smiled. "Jeff, how are you?" He then smiled at me. "Good Matt. Is it still Captain or is it just Matt?" I smiled when he asked. "It's just Matt. Hermann's Captain now." Jeff seemed shocked by that. "Before Severide?" I nodded. "Gallo, how about you go inside and wait for an order. I am going to catch up with my former co-worker/my friend's ex-boyfriend." He laughed and smiled. "It awkward when you hang out with Natalie?" I shook my head. "Nope, she's married anyways. And pregnant."
Jeff laughed a bit and smiled. "I know, it's like there's a huge baby boom going around the city." I nodded and smiled. "Cruz, both Halsteads, Ruzek and Burgess, Antonio Dawson and Sylvie, and Cordova." Jeff then thought about that. "Wow, so that's 5 kids...6 total in 1 year." I then laughed. "Actually, it's 8 kids...total of 9 in 1 year. Cruz is having triplets. Dawson and Sylvie, who just so happen to also be my in-laws, are having twins." Jeff then remembered. "Right, Gabby's brother is intelligence officer Antonio Dawson." I nodded and smiled.
"He has Matteo for the night." Jeff smiled when I said his name. "I know I didn't serve with you guys long but, I'd like to meet him some day. We are still friends right?" I nodded and smiled. "Of course. Once you've risked your life for somebody...that's forever." Jeff nodded and agreed. "It's the same way in the military." I then smiled and looked at him. "When you heading back to Hawaii? Heard you moved there." Jeff smiled. "I am due to return in the next couple weeks. However, I am wondering whether I should stay. I like being around friends."
I nodded and smiled. "Aren't you working part-time at McCormick's University Campus in the ER?" Jeff nodded. "Right, you know about that. You're an EMT. By the way, don't mean to ask if it's a bother but...what happened?" I sighed and looked at him. "Bad lungs. And remember those head problems? It's been acting up again." Jeff sighed. "I am just glad you're done fighting fires. Then, it would be a problem. Just make sure that nothing bad happens." I nodded and agreed. "I promise. Anyways, I have a son to stay alive for because I want to watch him grow up."
We both agreed and smiled. "By the way, what happened to you and Lisa?" Jeff sighed. "She cheated on me." I nodded and sighed. "Don't worry, the right woman is out there for you. Just so happened that mine was literally in the same firehouse as me the entire time." Jeff laughed when I said that. That's when I heard Gabby come out. "Yes, I was. Now, come back inside before you get cold. Hi Jeff." Jeff then smiled at Gabby. "Hi Gabby, congrats again you guys." I smiled when he said that and wrapped my arm around Gabby. "Thanks." I then looked at her.
I then decided to bend down and kiss her softly. "You need me to go out on a delivery run?" Gabby shook her head. "You're working in the kitchen for a while. It's starting to get busy so can you please get to work?" I nodded and agreed. "Nice to talk to you Jeff. We'll have to catch up when this all clears up." Jeff nodded and agreed. "Definitely. Have a safe shift and good night." Me and Gabby then both walked back into the restaurant so that we could get back to work. Well, start work considering I was just on delivery until now.
