One Chicago: Health First Part 4

Chapter 1157

Matt's POV: Once I finished grabbing a shirt, I looked at Gabby who was still a bit nervous even around me. I didn't know that she was still so traumatized by that even all these years later. "Hey, I'm right here. Talk to me Gabby and let me be here for you just like I was all those years ago." Gabby then moved over on the bed and asked me to sit next to her. I gladly did and moved my arm around her. "You're safe baby. We're here at home, together." Gabby then sighed and looked at me. "Sorry I am still so bothered by this all these years later."

I then moved to grab her hand and rubbed it. "Gabby, it's me. You don't need to apologize for being traumatized about something that happened to you. I am not here to judge you or to criticize you for being traumatized. You have every right in the world to be traumatized considering it happened to you twice in the same building." Gabby then nodded as she looked up to me. "God, Severide and Stella are going to think I'm a freak when I cry at night." I then shook my head. "Hey, they are not going to think you are a freak."

Gabby then went to grab my hand and sighed. I then moved to lean down and kiss her softly. "We're home together Gabby. Now, did you have breakfast while I was gone?" Gabby bit her lip and shook her head. "I don't think I did." I then nodded and looked at her. "Then that's the problem. We both know that your mind goes everywhere when you don't eat. How about you grab Matteo and come sit with us. No need to talk about this okay?" Gabby nodded and agreed as we both got up.

Gabby then grabbed Matteo and went to carry him out of the bedroom while I wrapped my arm around her. That's when we came out to see Severide making breakfast. Once they saw us, Stella turned to look at Gabby and smiled. "You okay Girl? You seemed to have a massive freak out." Gabby sighed and nodded. "It was a flashback to that time the creep came. It's why I don't shower at the firehouse anymore." Stella then nodded. "Here, come sit down and relax. Or, we can go start with the dress shopping now. Your choice."

Gabby sighed. "Can we wait until after I eat? I kinda want to be out here in case I space out while holding Matteo. That way Matt can be here to take care of him." I then looked at Gabby and sighed. "Gabby, just put him in the play pen. Has he already been fed." Gabby then turned to look at me and nodded. I then smiled and reminded her to breathe. "Then leave him in his play pen and go relax in bed. Go look a those pretty dresses. And pick one out for yourself too." Gabby then nodded as she got up. She then walked over to me in the kitchen and smiled.

"Thanks. Did I ever tell you how great of a husband and father you are?" Gabby then went to wrap her arm around my back and smiled at me. "Yes, many times." I then bent down to kiss her softly before letting her go. "Go relax in bed. I will bring you some breakfast when it's ready." I then let Gabby go and watched as she walked away to the bedroom before turning my attention back to the eggs I was making for her. That's when Severide spoke up.

"Does that happen often?" I sighed and looked at him. "Not that often anymore but, it still does happen a few times. It's hard on us because it reminds me that I failed her a bit. I should've protected her." Severide then nodded. "Dude, you did. You basically attacked the guy." I then chuckled. "Trust me, I wanted to do a lot more to that SOAB." Severide then stared at me. "Okay, what has happened to you. You never swear when you are at home anymore."

I laughed when he said that. "And let my son have a swear word as his first word. Sorry but, I don't want to have to deal with the yelling I would get from Gabby both in English and Spanish." Severide then looked at me. "Oh no. You get the angry Spanish Gabby when you're in trouble." I laughed and nodded. "Believe me, that's how she swears. She knows some spanish swear words and uses them in front of Matteo rather than the English swear words." 

Severide then nodded. "Well, that's probably one of the benefits of speaking multiple languages. Being able to swear in front of people without anybody knowing. By the way, what are you making for breakfast anyways?" Severide smiled when I asked. "I found your eggs. So, I am making omelets. Can you get some bacon out and we can have it with omelets and toast?" I nodded and agreed, walking over to the fridge to get some bacon. I then put it out for him.

I then went to grab some bread and moved to start some in the toaster. "By the way, been meaning to ask you this. Have you and Stella figured out what you guys are doing about where you are planning to live after the wedding? Are you guys going to stay at the loft or are you guys going to move into your own place?" Severide then bit his lip and shrugged. "Dude, we haven't even been engaged a week. We haven't thought about anything yet."

I nodded and agreed. "Listen, let's just get this breakfast ready so that Gabby can eat. That will calm her down with regards to the worrying she is probably doing right now." Severide nodded and agreed as we spent the next 10 minutes making breakfast for everybody. And let's just say that I couldn't wait for it to be done considering I was hungry after my workout.
