Chapter 1158

10 Minutes Later when Breakfast is Ready
Matt's POV: After making Gabby a breakfast sandwich, I smiled as I made my way back into the bedroom to see her and Stella looking at the iPad. "Sorry to disturb but, I have some breakfast." Gabby then looked up at me and smiled. "Thanks." I then looked at her. "That your wedding dress or Stella's?" Gabby then laughed. "Mine. So, you can't look." I nodded and went to grab her hand. "Make sure you eat okay? We both know that your mind goes to bad places when you don't eat." Gabby agreed and nodded. I then looked at Stella. "Make sure she eats."

Stella nodded and agreed. "And you make sure that Kelly doesn't try and sneak in here while we are looking at wedding dresses." I then pointed to Gabby. "You really think that's going to be a problem. She is literally going to yell at him and probably assault him if he tries to come in here." Gabby then laughed and smiled, the first one I've seen since she had that little panic attack which led her to clam up a bit. I then moved to kiss Gabby's forehead and smiled at her. "You are safe here okay? You can always relax."

Gabby nodded and smiled as I left the room. Closing the door behind me, I then walked over to Severide who was holding Matteo. "You are so ready to be a dad." Severide then looked at me and nodded. "Oh, totally. Seeing you be a dad has really made me want this. Heck, almost having a kid made me realize just how much I really wanted to be a dad." I nodded and smiled while sitting down on the couch. I then looked at Matteo and made a few faces. He then reached out for me and sighed. "Sorry Severide."

Severide then nodded. "Hey, he's not my son. He's yours. Makes sense that he would want to cuddle up to his dad." I nodded and agreed as I went to grab him from Severide and then carried him to the couch. I then went to sit down and laid him down on my chest while putting my hand on his back. "Hey buddy, someone miss daddy when they woke up this morning?" I then moved to kiss his head softly while rubbing his back. "God, no wonder Gabby wanted to risk her life to give you this little guy. You're a great dad man."

I smiled when he said that and nodded. "Just doing the opposite of what my dad did to me." Severide sighed. "I remember when you told me what he did to you when we were at the Academy, still feel bad about that." I nodded and agreed. "I am getting over it by being the best dad I can be to Matteo. That's when I heard him sneeze into my ear. I then held him back and smiled. "Achoo. Yeah, someone needed to sneeze in my ear eh little guy?" Matteo then looked around the room more and smiled. "You want some toys little guy?" I then got up and put him on his play mat. 

I then moved to grab some of his plushies from the toy chest we had there before giving them to him. "There we go buddy. How about you relax there while daddy gets himself and his friend some non-alcoholic beer." Severide then turned to look at me. "Non-alcoholic?" I nodded. "It's the only type of beer I can drink at home now. Gabby's dad was always drunk while he lived with us and she doesn't like to see a dad who is drunk."

Severide agreed and nodded. "I can try one." I agreed and nodded before going to give one. "So, catch me up on life. I mean, other than you getting engaged...what's happening with you and Stella?" Severide then smiled. "Let's just say that we spent the past few days doing less talking than we did having fun." I nodded and understood what he meant when I watched him open his beer and take a drink. "Hey, this is pretty good." I nodded and smiled.

"Gabby found it when she was in Puerto Rico. She needed stress relief but, wasn't able to drink so...this was her compromise. Her doctor cleared her for it so, we bought some. I like it and it's all I drink now. You get the satisfaction that you are drinking beer and it actually feels like the normal type of beer we serve at Molly's but...it doesn't get you wasted." Severide smiled and agreed. "You guys should serve this at Molly's for pregnant women who can't drink but...who want to be at a bar and have the feeling of drinking." 

Severide smiled and agreed. "By the way, wanted to talk to you about something. And I want you to be honest with me. What's the difference between the conversations you and Gabby had about adoption versus surrogacy? Is it more like what happened when she was trying to adopt the little guy or do I have nothing to be worried about? I am not taking your side this time if anything happens." I then stared at him. "A couple questions. Why wouldn't you take my side? Would you take her side? And what do you mean?"

Severide sighed. "I wouldn't take your side because I would instead be on Matteo's side. Remember, I come from a broken home." I nodded and understood. "Makes sense and we are talking more surrogacy than adoption because she has PTSD after her ordeal with Louie. She says that the only baby she would agree to adopt is a baby who is abandoned at birth at the hospital." Severide nodded and agreed. "Probably the best course of action."

I nodded and smiled. "However, I already told her that we are getting a background check on any woman that we get to be our surrogate. I am not letting a criminal get anywhere near my sperm." Severide laughed and nodded. "Antonio already got a list?" I nodded and smiled. "Oh, and believe it or not...there was actually a surrogate that Gabby wanted me to consider. Let me just say this...perfect on paper but, not at all perfect when it came to looks."

Severide was confused when I said that. "Why does looks have anything to do when she isn't going to be related to the baby?" I then laughed. "Because the surrogate was literally the spitting image of Hallie."
