Back with Matt & Gabby as they walk back out to the living room:
Matt's POV: I was glad that in the end we decided to come back out to the living room after supper to hang out with my sister. It was really what I needed right now after that outburst. Walking out, I saw my niece Violet playing on her iPad. I was thinking about checking what game it was but decided to put the dishes in the dishwasher first. Once that was done, I made my way over to the living room and went to sit next to Violet. Wrapping my arm around her, I smiled."God, this game is so addicting. I remember when we had Louie. It was his addiction." Violet then looked up at me and smiled. "What ever happened to him anyways?" I then sighed. "His dad turned up and wanted him back. We don't talk about it much. It's what led to our divorce." My sister then looked up at me from her iPad. "Wow, that must've been rough." I agreed and sighed. "Exactly why we are not talking about it. We have enough on our plates anyways."
My sister nodded and agreed when she saw Gabby walk out with Matteo. "Okay, I don't care you say...auntie Christie wants to hold that little chico." Gabby smiled when she said that. "Let me guess, you want to learn spanish in case?" Christie nodded and smiled. "Once he's talking...I don't ever want to have to listen to him swearing a me in spanish. Nor do I want him talking behind my back in a bad way. Sorry but, that's my conditions. I need to learn the language."
I nodded and agreed. "I am going to learn it too. Someday, I am going to do something I probably should've done the first time me and Gabby were married." Gabby then walked over to me and smiled. "Come to Puerto Rico?" I then nodded before signing. "Go visit where you're from. And now that we have kids who are half-Puerto Rican...I want them to learn their culture." I nodded and agreed. "Definitely, that sounds great." Christie smiled when she said that.
"Okay, I want to be cautious here because I don't want to get on Matt's bad side again but...do you mind maybe if I ask questions about stuff I've heard on the news and you can kinda debunk false perceptions that I have about Puerto Rico?" Gabby smiled and nodded. "Of course. That's actually a good idea considering I haven't really heard much about Biden doing anything for Puerto Rico. That's something I hoped he would have done by now considering what they need." Gabby then turned to look at me. "By the way, remind me to talk to you about this program I just found. It's in the middle of adoption/sponsoring." I then nodded and smiled at her.
"I think I've seen the ads on TV. Is that what you're talking about?" I nodded. "Yeah, but instead of African kids...it's Puerto Rican kids." I smiled when she said that. "Good idea. Probably the second best thing we can do for those kids down there other than adopting them." Christie smiled when I said that. "Okay, this is really weird. Never in a million years would I ever hear my brother talk about adoption." I sighed when she said that. "Our circumstances have changed that. That and never wanting to loose Gabby again."
Gabby then turned my head so we were looking at each other before rubbing my cheek. "I promise, I am not going anywhere." I smiled when she said that and nodded. "So listen, I want to ask this. How is school going Violet? You missing the in class part of school or are you okay with online school?" Violet smiled when I asked that. "Honestly, I love it. I am still trying to figure something else out though. Like whether I can do it next year too even if schools are back."
Christie then looked at her, shocked. "Really? I thought you would want to go back so that you could spend more time with your friends?" Violet then sighed. "It's so much easier when it came to me having to go between your place and dad's. I had to take the bus sometimes and it's so long since my route takes me through downtown." Christie nodded and understood. "Heck, it probably would've been faster to get off at uncle Matt's firehouse and he could've given me a ride on the truck." I laughed when she said that. "Not happening Violet. That's not allowed."
Gabby nodded and agreed. "They are starting to get much more strict about what we can and can't do. I swear, the change that I've seen in just a few years has been unbelievable. I thought they were strict about stuff when I left to go to Puerto Rico. It's way worse now." I nodded and smiled at Gabby when I heard a knock at the door. I was confused and decided to get up. Walking over to the door, I went to see who it was and then groaned. "What did you tell him?"
Christie then looked at me. "Oh shit, is it Jim?" I nodded and sighed. "I am just going to ignore it. I don't need to let him in." I then went to walk over Gabby again when I heard him yell. "I saw you at the window Matt. Is Violet here?" I then sighed. "Jim, can you just leave? You are on private property." Jim then yelled again. "I know Christie's here. I recognize her car. Christie, it's my turn!" Violet then sighed and got up to go to the door. "I will talk to him." Violet then went to open the door and looked at her dad. "I am not going to your place."
Jim just stared at her. "What?" Violet then sighed. "Dad, you barely spend time with me. I am just there to be in my room. You are making the nursery and stuff. Plus, I want to be here with my aunt and uncle." Jim then looked at her. "Violet, you need to come. It's the rule." Violet then shook her head. "What, so you can just be alone with your pregnant girlfriend? You do realize that you didn't even notice I snuck out once to get food last time. You were busy for 2 hours!"
Christie then stared at him. "You did what now? Was this before or after you got COVID?" Violet then sighed. "Right before." Christie then looked at Jim. "Jim, you go back to your girlfriend. She is not going to your place." I am calling the cops. "Might not want to do that. If you deploy the cops, my brother will come because it's our address." Jim the laughed. "Sure, because that's going to happen." He then walked away to go call him. Gabby just sighed and looked at Christie. "I am going to lay down before this gets me all worked up." I nodded and agreed.
I then sighed and looked at Violet. "Can you please just go Violet? Gabby has OCD and Anxiety. I would rather she relax." Violet then groaned. "Fine, I'll go but...I won't promise I'll like it." Violet then walked away and went to pack her stuff so that she could go with her dad. I then went to look at Jim and opened the door. "Stay there, she's getting ready." Jim nodded and agreed before waiting for Violet to get ready.
