Gabby's POV: Ever since Gallo was hired at Molly's, I've secretly been skeptical about his abilities to juggle the job. Heck, even sometimes I have a hard time balancing everything. Between being a mom, a wife, paramedic and part-owner...it's getting tough the older Matteo is. Sometimes I wonder whether they would even let me keep part-ownership of the bar if I stopped working here. Then again, they probably would even if I decided to concentrate more on the bar instead of the firehouse.
That's when Hermann answered my question. "Let's say that he's a better firefighter than bartender. But, he's learning. I think he's just getting used to the dynamic that he can relax around me here but...he needs to follow my authority at the firehouse. And by the way Matt, can you talk to Boden about everything he has delegated to you. He just plopped it right on me. I am not ready yet to do that." Matt then laughed when he said that. "Comes with the job Hermann."
I then looked at him. "Baby, that's not true. Boden asked you if you would be willing and you said yes way back when you first started as captain." Matt sighed and shook his head. "It's been that way for a while apparently. At least, when there is a Captain. Remember when Paterson was there? Boden delegated stuff to him as well." I nodded and remembered that. "Still felt weird having him at the hospital when we were first pregnant. He was barely family at that time."
Matt sighed and nodded. "I always knew you felt that way." I then glared at him. "Then why in the world didn't you ask him to leave?" Matt just glared at me, giving me the 'are we really doing this now?' stare. I nodded and expected an answer. Matt then sighed and nodded. "If Hatcher was there when I was in the hospital, would you have been able to tell your boss that we wanted to be alone?" I then bit my lip and shook my head. "Oh, he scares the crap out of me."
Matt laughed. "That was exactly how I felt about having captain Patterson there when you miscarried. I am just glad he wasn't at the firehouse anymore when you gave birth this time." That's when I heard the door open. "Sorry, Molly's is closed to non-Firehouse 51 personnel or family." I then saw Captain Patterson walk in. "Mind if come in? The snow is horrible." I then sighed and looked at him. "How much of that did you just hear by any chance Captain?"
Patterson then sighed as he walked up to us. "I heard most of it Captain Casey." I then sighed. "I make no apologies. You have to admit, it was a bit weird to have you there when we only knew each other for 3-4 weeks at the most." Patterson nodded and agreed. "How are things at Firehouse 51 anyways? Staying safe during COVID." I nodded and smiled. "As safe as you can be when you are a paramedic." Patterson the remembered that I was now PIC at Firehouse 51.
"That's right. I am so sorry about your lungs. I heard about it. How's Severide doing? He in the same state?" I sighed and looked at him. "Captain, I'm sorry but this is really not the time. In fact, as much as I would love to speak it's not really safe. COVID has been in our family already and we have a newborn son." Everybody then looked at me and nodded. "Right, congratulations to you both. One of my firefighters mentioned you were back in town. He was in Puerto Rico with you on that mission apparently."
I turned to look at him and tried to remember who was on my mission. "What's his name?" Dallas then smiled. "Isaac Davidson?" I laughed and smiled when he said that. "That's funny. Oh god. He was my roommate in Puerto Rico." Matt then looked at me. "Your roommate was a guy?" I then glared at Matt. "And his girlfriend Anna Valdez." Dallas then smiled. "His fiancé is actually the paramedic on Ambo 85." Matt then laughed. "Okay, that's crazy. So they are basically the us of Firehouse 85." Dallas nodded.
"So, you guys taking take out orders? I was going to grab some for the firehouse." I then realized he had the radio and was on duty. "Of course. I didn't even notice." He nodded and smiled before turning to look at Hermann. "Congrats by the way Hermann on your promotion to Captain." He nodded and smiled. "I have Matt to thank for that considering he put the letter of recommendation in." Matt nodded and smiled. "And so did Boden." Patterson then smiled. "So, is Kelly a captain yet?" I sighed when he asked that. "Not yet. But, he's getting married."
Patterson nodded. "Send him my congrats for me okay? Now, how about I order and then get out of your hair?" We all nodded and smiled as he walked away to go make an order at the bar. Matt then looked at me and sighed. "That was awkward." I agreed and smiled at Matt before grabbing his hand when I pointed at Matteo. "How he doing?" Matt then looked down at him and smiled while kissing his head. "We brought the cooler right?" I nodded when he asked. "Yeah."
Matt then smiled. "Just checking. He hasn't cried yet but, that's probably because we fed and changed him at the house." I then smiled and agreed. That's when we heard Hermann come back. "He's probably the youngest customer we've ever had in here. When you guys starting him on solids so he can try the fries we have?" Matt then smiled. "Not for a few months but trust me, he is probably going to love the food here." I smiled and nodded, agreeing with him.
Patterson then came back after ordering and grabbing a beer. "Mind if I sit down?" Matt then sighed and looked at him. "Preferably Captain, not to insult you but, could you please step back a bit. I am okay sitting with my co-workers since we are in a bubble but...I am not comfortable with you being too close considering we have our son Matteo here." He nodded and agreed. "Of course Matt. I completely understand." He then went to sit at the bar and smiled. I then looked at Matt and smiled. "Matt, why were you so nervous to ask him that?"
Matt sighed and nodded. "I am intimidated by him. He's very serious when you look at him." Patterson then laughed and nodded. "Sorry about that." Matt smiled. "But, it's not to insult you. It's to protect Matteo." Matt then moved to kiss his head again before looking down at him to see him tugging on his shirt and sucking on it. "Seems like our little guy likes to play with my shirt just like his mom." I then smiled when he said that. "But I prefer to do it in bed rather than in public when we are in front of our friends."
Matt nodded and smiled when I said that because it was true. That's when I saw our salad finally arrive. "Finally, that took forever Gallo." Gallo then walked up and nodded. "Sorry, just got a text." I then glared at him. "Please put your phone in the bin behind the bar for employee's cellphones." Gallo then went to protest. "But..." I just glared at him. "Matt still has his rank as captain and I am your boss here. Want to get in trouble both here and at the firehouse?"
Gallo then gulped. "No Gabby." I then stared at him. "Then go put your phone down. I want orders out quickly when we are delivering. That way, we can get more orders out, quicker." Gallo agreed and walked away to go put his phone down in the bin. Hermann then turned to look at me. "You never did that with your nephew." I then laughed. "Hermann, I don't do it here because I have already done it at home. He knows the rules. And believe me, if you think that was bad. Imagine getting it twice. Once from his boss and once from his aunt Gabby."
Matt then added on. "Trust me Hermann, you do not want to get Gabby mad if you speak spanish. Then you understand everything she says. From the few words that I've been learning...she speaks pretty harsh and swears a lot in spanish." That's when Patterson spoke to Gabby in spanish. "¿Tu hablas español?" (You speak spanish?) Gabby then nodded and smiled. "My family comes from Mexico. Where did you learn your spanish? It's quite good."
