Meanwhile, at Molly's
Matt's POV: As me and Gabby sit at a table, I smile as I take a sip of my water while holding Matteo against my chest. We decided that we would be working around here tonight which meant that we didn't need to do deliveries. Anyways, today is usually our slow night. So, that was going to help a lot. That's when I saw our caesar salad come out. "Thanks Cruz." Cruz then smiled at us. "Matt, you sure you didn't hurt your eye? You got quite a shiner there."Gabby then looked at me and sighed. "I didn't want anybody to say anything. I wanted to be the one to clean it up later." I then went to grab her hand and nodded. "Then you will." Rubbing it as I looked at her, I heard Cruz talk to us. "So, we never heard the complete story about your daring rescue in the little pond out in Joliet." I laughed when he said that before nodding. "Oh, Jay fell in while we were looking for a Christmas tree. The bond was covered with black ice."
Cruz nodded. "But, you jumping in?" I nodded. "The firefighter in me felt compelled to save him. Plus, I doubt Antonio would've done it. I have no regrets about doing it thought considering what Gabby and me did to warm up afterwards." I then smirked at Gabby at winked. Cruz then laughed. "Of course she joined you in the shower. How can she not when her husband goes all action here to save another man while also putting his life at risk." I nodded.
"Cruz, have you forgotten that we literally do that on a daily basis?" Cruz then sighed. "Unfortunately, I might be quitting. Haven't made up my mind yet but....I may be at least taking a long paternity leave. Hey, you probably have more time now. Can you figure out if I can take 3 consecutive paternity leaves?" I then laughed at Joe. "Dude, did you really just say I have more time? Yeah, between Matteo, Molly's, the firehouse and family. Less time is the reality."
Cruz then laughed and agreed. "God, if you are that busy then...maybe I need to give up one of the two. I am not going to be able to do the 24 hour shifts anymore." I nodded and agreed. "You are going to have to sign up for those day shifts again. Those are still available right?" Cruz nodded. "Wait, you guys are the ones that suggested them. Why haven't you taken any?" Gabby then shrugged. "We wanted the option. But, we like the 24 hour shift. Gives us 2 days with him."
I then smiled as I looked down at Matteo and then looked at Joe. "God, how are you going to do this with 3 kids? One of them is always going to have to be in a stroller." Joe then nodded. "I know, that's the bad thing. I would've loved to be able to carry one of my little guys on my chest everyday." I smiled when he said that. I then decided to check on Matteo and saw he was sleeping a bit. "Someone must be tired." I then moved my jacket to hide the light.
Gabby then smiled at me. "He asleep?" I nodded. "He didn't take many naps today after all. And we both know he didn't nap at all while we were at the gym. It was too loud with the banging." Gabby sighed and agreed. Joe was confused. "What gym is open?" I then laughed. "Antonio's gym. However, I may try and buy part of it so that I can get keys." Gabby liked the ideas. "We can always ask Antonio to make us keys. I mean, he is my brother and will do anything for me."
I sighed and looked at Gabby. "Maybe not right now though." I then turned to look at Cruz. "Did you guys get the news?" Cruz was confused. "What news?" I then sighed and looked at him. "Antonio and Sylvie lost their daughter. They are only having a son now." Cruz then went to sit down at the table next to us and sighed. "I feel so bad for them." Gabby then sighed. "Having gone through it myself, I wouldn't ever wish it on anybody else. Gave me flashbacks."
I then went to grab her hand and rubbed it. "At least they are getting through it together. If your brother is anything like you, this is going to make their relationship stronger." Gabby smiled when I said that and nodded. She was then about to say something when I saw Jay walk in with Erin. "You already talked to your co-workers about us joining you guys right?" Joe then turned to look at us. "Jay and Erin are eating with you guys?"
I sighed and nodded. "We've been together all afternoon. Unmasked and together. We got tested. I promise, we are all safe. Plus Cruz, you really think she would be out if she had COVID. I bet Jay would literally send her to the hospital get her the best care possible." Jay then laughed and nodded. "Hey Gabby, mind slipping over so I can sit down?" Gabby then looked up at Erin and nodded. I then did the same for Jay and smiled. "You order yet?"
I nodded. "We ordered a caesar salad. Big size for the table. By the way Cruz, where is that?" That's when I saw Leon come out. He then froze when he saw Jay and Erin. Erin then looked at him. "Leon, I didn't know you were back in town." He nodded and smiled. "I came back when I found out that Cruz was having a kid. Moved in and decided to stay when I learned it was triplets." Leon then came to give us the salad. "Relax Leon, they're off duty."
Leon nodded. "And pregnant. What does Voight think about that? I know he was protective of you when I worked with you guys." Erin nodded. "He likes Jay. If not, he wouldn't have ever given him his blessing." Jay then laughed as he wrapped his arm around her. "Not that he really had a choice considering you were pregnant when I proposed." Erin smiled and nodded when Jay said that. "By the way, thanks for meeting at the gym. It was fun. Got your stress down?"
Jay then looked at me and smiled. "Heck, it did. I haven't even thought about that since we left the gym. Thanks." I smiled and nodded as I went to grab my drink. "We allowed to have beer tonight?" Erin then turned to look at Jay and stared at him. "You aren't going to if you want any action tonight." Erin then slapped his cheek. I just looked at him. "Dude, why aren't you doing solidarity with your wife? She can't drink...so you should offer to do the same."
Gabby laughed when I said that. "God, that reminds me so much of what happened just over there. I was bartending at the start of my first pregnancy. Matt was there at the bar and I asked him for a drink. He said none and water. And I just looked at him confused and shocked. His answer. Solidarity. All I said was, yeah we'll see how long that lasts." I then sighed as I wrapped my arm around her. "I wanted to make a joke but, it's insensitive considering the reason."
Gabby nodded and smiled at him. I then turned to look at Leon. "Isn't there another order coming in momentarily?" Leon then realized that and nodded. "Sorry, I am getting back to work." He then walked away and sighed when I saw Gallo come back from delivering an Order. "Gallo, how was the delivery?" Gallo then sighed. "Not sure how much longer I can deal with this horrible snow. Especially when some jackass with the pickup parked in the delivery car spot."
The entire table then turned to look at Jay. I then sighed. "Gallo, go back out to the car. Jay is going to move his truck for you. Seriously, are you blind man?" Jay then sighed and got up. "Yes, I am. Not save me some of that salad. Let Erin grab some first. She's pregnant after all." He then went to kiss her softly before walking out with Gallo. "C'mon, let's move our cars." He then agreed and nodded.
Gabby then turned to look at Hermann, waiting until Gallo was gone to ask him a question. "So, how's Gallo as a delivery driver so far?"
