Steve has taken you out for dinner to your favourite restaurant, but has been acting off all evening. You haven't wanted to pry, but you're starting to worry about how he feels about you.
"Shall we go home?" You ask him tentatively, deciding that when you return to the compound, you will get to the bottom of what is going on.
"Soon," Steve replies, placing his napkin gently onto the table. "But first....let's go for a walk."
He holds out his hand to you, and you place yours in his, frowning as to this sudden change in behaviour.
Walking together down the cobbled streets, your hands linked together, you turn your head to look at him. His eyes are focused on the road ahead, and his jaw is clenched. You feel anxiety run through your body, worrying about why he's acting so distant.
"Where are we going Steve?" You ask him quietly.
"You'll see," he replies immediately. "I've got something I want to show you."
Slowing as he comes to a small doorway, he presses his hand to your lower back.
"In here honey." He says as he guides you forward.
As you step in through the doorway, the smell of freshly cut flowers and a slightly humid warmth envelops you.
"What is this place?" You ask Steve in wonder.
Steve doesn't reply, just continues to gently guide you further into the large room. As you walk, you see more and more flowers, spread out before you, and the light becomes slightly brighter, while also being calmer somehow. You feel like you're walking on air, and when you look down, you realise you're actually walking on a see-through platform, over water. You gasp, placing your hand on your chest as emotion claws at your throat. You've never seen anything quite so beautiful.
You turn to face Steve, smiling at him, but stop, when you see how serious he once again looks.
"Steve? What's wrong?" You ask, gently placing your hand on his chest.
Steve takes a breath before replying.
"I don't know how to say this-I've had so long to think about it, but now it's here, I feel like I've forgotten everything I've had in my head." Steve replies.
You look down at the floor steeling yourself for what's coming next, anxiety still clawing at you.
"Look at me baby," Steve says, tipping your head towards him. "You're everything to me, you know that right?"
Tears fill your eyes.
"You are to me too Steve!" You reply.
"Good." Steve says smiling. "So what do you say....."
He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a small black box. The world around you falls away, as you watch the man you love, slowly fall to one knee.
As he opens it, and you see the glint of the jewellery inside, a tear falls down your face.
"Will you marry me?" Steve asks, his voice also breaking.
You have no words, you just stand there, more tears falling, looking between the ring and Steve.
Steve continues.
"Be my wife? Spend the rest of your life with me?"
You force out a breath before replying.
"Yes. Yes, yes, YES Steve, of course I'll marry you!"
Steve laughs before standing back up and placing the ring on your finger. It fits perfectly, and you know he's put so much thought into it. It's everything you would've wanted and more. You throw your arms around him and hold on to him tightly.
He swings you round, making you both laugh, before stopping and pulling away from you to look into your eyes.
"God I love you so much baby." He says, holding your face gently in his hands.
"I love you too Rogers." You reply, before kissing him with all of the passion and love you can.
