Time stops for Sherlock, and life begins to make sense. His job is to protect the little human held in his hands until he dies. That's the only thing he knows for certain anymore. Everything else is fluff, things that either assist or hinder his role in life. Deductions can't be made on babies - they are too innocent and new to the world to hold hidden information. Sherlock doesn't need deductions for him to know that this baby loves him, and he loves them too.

Beautiful. His baby is beautiful and he can't believe how fast the 9 months passed. But he holds them now, their weight a sense of grounded reality in his hands. He's too happy to cry, so he smiles until his cheeks hurt.

He doesn't want to be involved in particularly dangerous crimes anymore. He wants to live and be there for his baby. His eyes grow red as they fight back tears. He is happy, so why should he cry? The love he feels for this child is immeasurable. He helped make them, and now it's his job to protect them.

He is shocked at first. This person has been baking in your stomach for 9 whole months, and now they are here, in his arms, staring up at him wide eyes. He looks at you, making sure you are okay as you calm down. He smiles softly, and you can already see him being an amazing dad.

He's terrified that the baby won't like him. Apart form you, not many people do. The baby is crying in your arms as you pass them over to him, and he holds them a little awkwardly until he gets comfortable. The baby stops crying as soon as he begins talking to them, and the smile he gives back is of genuine relief.
