Description: Leo was born into a family with deaf parents. Three years after he was born his deaf sister was born. He was the only one with hearing. Because of this, he has grown up with ASL being his first language but also being able to speak English at school and with friends. He and Lilly (his sister) have grown up being bullied because of their family, and Lilly because she can't hear, but for the most part they don't let it bother them. Lilly knows her parents will be there for her and her brother will stand up for her, and Leo knows he has his family. When Leo is called down to the office to help show around a new student, he is slightly surprised when he meets this cute boy who immediately greets him in ASL. How will they get on? Will a relationship form? Will it be friendship or something more? Read to find out. (Around 3200 words.)

"This is people talking out loud"

'This is people talking in ASL'

Leo's POV

Mrs. Williams was taking us through the notes when her desk phone started ringing.

Immediately my best friend nudged me and spoke to me in broken ASL.

'She is going to kill me with these boring notes.'

He messed up a bit but I understood and smiled, 'You're being dramatic.'

He sent a small glare at me.

He's much better at reading and understanding ASL than he is at doing it.

Mark has been my best friend since elementary school and as soon as he found out about my family and ASL, he started to try to learn. I gave him lessons and so did my parents, he also found lessons online. He's better than when he started, that's for sure, but he still isn't the best. I'm really glad he tried and is still trying so hard to be able to relate more to me and communicate with my family. My parents love him and I'm pretty sure Lilly has a small crush on him.

"Leo."

I looked up at Mrs. Williams to see her motioning for me to go to her desk.

I got over there, "Yeah?"

"Go to the office, Mr. Ibe needs you to help show a new student around. And no need to bring your bag, you'll be coming back before class ends."

I nodded, "Okay."

I went to my desk then and grabbed my phone.

"Someone's in trouble," Kevin whispered loud enough across the room we could all hear.

I rolled my eyes and signed to Mark, 'I'll be back, I'm not in trouble.'

He nodded and waved as I left.

On my walk to the office, I couldn't stop wondering why I'm being called down to show someone around. Usually like the top students do that or the new students just fend for themselves.

I knocked on Mr. Ibe's office door as the receptionist lady told me to.

I heard a faint "come in" and then I walked in.

I closed the door behind me and felt my eyebrows raise as I looked at the kid. He's cute as hell.

He smiled at me, 'Hello, my name is Caden.'

He laughed a little at the shocked look on my face.

'Hi, I'm Leo.'

Mr. Ibe smiled a little, "Take a seat, Leo."

I did as told but was still kind of shocked. Although it did make sense. The reason I am showing the new kid around and not someone else is because I know ASL.
