Mother's Instinct (Story 10 - Part 3)

With Venno: 

The Velociraptor was sitting on the armchair, her mother sitting on the sofa as Rad and Slendithera remained on either side of the Voodoo Doll. 

On Slendither's lap lay Stella, the female Flame Cat curled up tightly and snoozing with a soft purr resonating from deep within her chest.

And on Rad’s lap was Karlson, the male Flame Cat seeming unbothered by the Toxic Sludge’s body as the kid pet feline who was also purring. 

“So tell me again. What made you decide to come visit us so suddenly without telling us first?” asked Venno, the Velociraptor tilting her head to the side as her gaze remained on her mother, the Voodoo Doll seemingly paying more attention to petting Stella. 

Queen Pin then shrugged, smiling as she turned to glance over at her eldest daughter. 

“No reason in particular, really. I just really missed you three. The house can get so empty and alone without you guys” said Queen Pin. 

Venno hummed in thought and nodded, but then frowned. 

“Wait, what about dad-?” began Venno, but she was suddenly interrupted in her train of thought when her mother simply forced a loud laugh and waved her off, even startling Slendithera and Rad with how brash it sounded. 

“Never mind your father. Let’s talk about something more important, like your new career!” exclaimed Queen Pin so suddenly that Venno felt as though she just got whiplash despite the fact that she was sitting. 

Venno’s eyes were wide in shock, the Velociraptor baffled by her mother’s sudden change in attitude towards the simple questioning of their father. 

Venno managed to shake her head quickly before scowling, the Velociraptor crossing her arms, but decided to just go along with what her mother wanted. 

For now, anyway. 

“Well, as I told you before, I’m a Bounty Hunter. That means that I hunt down bounties and bring them into the BHA so that they can be interrogated before being sent off to whoever posted them” explained Venno, the Velociraptor deciding to start by explaining to her mother what her job was all about. 

Queen Pin simply nodded, her smile looking forced. 

“And uh…earlier, when you were chasing that Hawk along the rooftops…you never mentioned how…dangerous…your job could get” said Queen Pin in a forced tone that made it sound like she was trying not to worry about her eldest daughter’s wellbeing. 

Venno frowned, the Velociaptor’s arms stiffening. 

“And…what about it?” asked Venno, the Velociraptor already dreading what her mother was about to say. 

Slendithera and Rad could only remain silent as they glanced between the two, both siblings starting to feel awkward. At this point, even Stella and Karlson had both raised their heads in attention, the two Flame Cats sensing the now sour mood in the atmosphere. 

“Well, it’s just that I worry about you getting hurt one of these days, or worse! I mean, you never know with these kinds of things, right? When I heard on the news that speech your boss gave at that CEO meeting, I felt proud to know that you were doing so well that you are now considered a top hunter…but then when I saw you jump at that Hawk who was flying-” began Queen Pin as she continued to rant, causing Venno’s mood to sour even more. 

“So what? Are you saying you’re not proud of what I do, now?” demanded Venno, her tail whipping against the floor angrily as her hands clutched her upper arms tightly.
