The Mountain of Secrets (Story 12 - Part 4)

With Venno and Barry: 

The Velociraptor and Wolf Hound were both standing at the start of the path that would lead them out of the ravine they had fallen in, the guard standing a few meters back and silently waiting for their decision. 

Venno smiled when she saw it, knowing that she could climb up the steep path with speed and ease, despite the fact that parts were covered in ice. 

“This will be easy. As long as we work together, we can climb up and out of here. Let’s tie ourselves together, once more, with that rope you still have” said Venno, glancing over at Barry. 

Venno frowned when she saw the look on the Wolf Hound’s face, causing her to worry. 

Barry just stared at the path with fear, his ears laying flat against his head. 

“Barry, did you hear what I said?” asked Venno, raising a hand to place on his shoulder only to have him quickly back away from the path. 

“You know what? Maybe I’ll just stay down here and wait for you to bring back some help. Or perhaps I can just stay and live down here, who knows, right?” said Barry, chuckling nervously before he quickly turned and ran back towards the village, leaving Venno and the guard to watch in shock. 

“Is your friend alright? He seems afraid” said the guard, walking over to Venno. 

Venno frowned, her eyes narrowing. 

“I don’t know what’s gotten into him, but I’m going to convince him to come with me. Thank you for showing us where the path is” said Venno, smiling as she glanced over at the guard when she mentioned the last part. 

The guard smiled and nodded, allowing Venno to quickly dash after the Wolf Hound to see if she could find him. 

With Jerry: 

The older Spider was pacing back and forth in his office, still waiting for any news from either Venno or Barry, the two having been gone for hours without informing them of anything. 

Fiona and Scott had remained in his office, the two silent as they both stared down at the floor, Scott’s arms crossed while Fiona’s clenched hands rested on her knees. 

Taking a quick puff from his cigar, Jerry sighed in annoyance before tossing it out, deciding to take matters into his own hands. 

“Alright you two, we’re heading to the Ice Cavern Mountain to see what’s taking those two so long” said Jerry, walking over to the closet nearby, opening it and taking out his winter jacket. 

Fiona and Scott were shocked and startled when they heard this, the two exchanging glances. 

“Wait, you want us to come, too?” asked Fiona, unsure whether she heard correctly. 

Jerry nodded, taking off his trenchcoat and hanging it up in the closet before changing into his winter jacket. He also made sure to change out of his usual brown boots and into some snow boots. 

“Yes, I’m gonna need you two to come with me so I can send you both up the mountain to look for them. I can’t exactly do any climbing with my injured leg, you know” said Jerry bluntly, closing his closet before walking over to where his sniper rifle was displayed on the nearby wall. 

“Oh yeah, this’ll be so much fun” said Scott excitedly, quickly standing up as Fiona remained where she was seated. 

“Sure, it’ll be fun” muttered Jerry to himself, picking up his sniper rifle and slinging it over his shoulder before turning to the two.
