Broken Hearts (Story 17 - Part 5)

With Venno: 

The Velociraptor was sitting in Jerry’s office, having just arrived five minutes ago. 

The Velociraptor and older Spider were silently watching the news, everything that had happened in New Strip City being shown, from the destruction of two museum exhibit rooms to the chase Venno made after Dexx. 

Once the topic changed to something in Los Hellus, Jerry simply turned the TV off before turning his attention back to Venno, the Velociraptor refusing to look up at him.

Jerry took a slow puff from his cigar before sighing, the Spider thinking on how to start.  

“So, you didn’t tell him right away after, did you? You told him while you were angry, and then went to say that he wouldn’t change because he had always been a professional thief” said Jerry, the older Spider trying to wrap his head around everything he saw on the news and from what Venno had already told him. 

Venno simply just nodded, the Velociraptor refusing to look at him in fear of the disappointed look Jerry would give her. 

Jerry took a quick puff from his cigar before sighing and shaking his head. 

“Honestly, Rapter, I don’t know what’s gotten into you lately. You’re one of my best Bounty Hunters, and I find out that you and that Anglerfish had an agreement with each other. Not to mention, you two have met up multiple times before, and you never told me about them. Now when I actually want him to be a Bounty Hunter and give him a chance to change, you get angry and scare him away” said Jerry, the older Spider unsure of what to think now. 

Venno cringed when he said this, the Velociraptor now looking up at him. 

“In my defense, he went behind my back and decided to take that diamond anyway when he promised he wouldn’t. He’s the one who betrayed my trust. Maybe you were right about him, maybe he was just trying to use my feelings against me so he could escape” said Venno, the Velociraptor mad at both Dexx and herself. 

Jerry was silent for a few seconds as he just stared at Venno, the Velociraptor having crossed her arms and glanced away. 

Jerry sighed and shook his head, the older Spider unsure of what else to say right now. 

“No, Rapter, his feelings for you are real. I can tell, I’ve only been in love once and then she left me” said Jerry. 

“She cheated on you and left?” asked Venno, the Velociraptor frowning as she glanced over. 

Jerry shook his head. 

“No, she passed. Way back when I was still in my twenties. Never married again, afterwards. But that’s not the point. What I’m trying to say is that when someone really loves you for who you are, they will show it. For some, it’s easy to catch, but for others it’s harder” said Jerry. 

Venno thought for a moment, the Velociraptor now thinking. 

“Take Barry and Fiona for example. Fiona was in love with Barry, but he was too stubborn and angry at everything to actually see it until you finally told him about it” said Jerry. 

The older Spider took a quick puff from his cigar as Venno nodded in understanding. 

“Yeah, I know that. I suppose I didn’t trust him at first because he had a bounty and is a professional thief” said Venno. 

Jerry nodded, the older Spider seeing that she was getting it. 

“And then you started to slowly fall for him, too. He’s not really a bad guy, and you know it” said Jerry.
