Mother's Instinct (Story 10 - Part 4)

With Venno: 

The Velociraptor was barely listening as she sat in the viewing room, she and Jerry listening to the conversation Fiona was having with the Hawk. 

The Pomeranian was asking simple questions politely, respecting the Hawk’s wishes when he refused to answer one and will just move on to a different question. 

So far, Fiona was doing a great job as the new Bounty Interrogator, despite the fact that she still seemed a little nervous when speaking to the bounties. 

Jerry took a slow puff from his cigarette before sighing, checking his watch once again to see what time it was. 

“I know I asked her to be the new Bounty Interrogator, but does it really take so long to get a confession out of them?” muttered Jerry mostly to himself, the Spider starting to get a little impatient with the slow progress. 

Venno managed to snap out of her thoughts, having heard what Jerry said. 

“It does take a little longer than we’re used to, boss, but she does manage to get a willing confession out of them by just having a simple conversation" admitted Venno, agreeing with the Spider to an extent. 

Jerry sighed once more before getting up and walking through the door into the interview room, startling both Fiona and the Hawk. 

“Come on, Fiona, a little faster would you? We’ve got other bounties coming in, soon, that also need interrogating. We can’t be stuck on one for more than five minutes, alright?” said Jerry, deciding to start giving Fiona five minutes with each interrogation. 

Fiona looked even more nervous now, the Pomeranian’s ears laying flat against her head. 

“Oh, I’m so sorry, boss. I’ll try to do better next time” said Fiona apologetically, bowing her head. 

Jerry hummed in thought before nodding, deciding to leave Fiona to it once more, entering back into the viewing room and sitting back down on his chair. 

“You sure that was a good idea?” asked Venno, watching as Fiona quickly fixed her hair before returning to her interrogation with the Hawk. 

Jerry took a quick puff from his cigarette before shrugging. 

“Honestly, Raptor, it’s been nearly ten minutes. Normally it would take around five. Not to mention that your mother is visiting, so I assume you want to go back home so you and your siblings could do some catching up with her” said Jerry, tossing his cigarette in the nearby trash bin before swiftly lighting a new one. 

Venno sighed, glancing away. 

Jerry raised an eyebrow in confusion, deciding to ignore the interrogation going on in favor of knowing what was on Venno’s mind. 

“Care to explain why you’re not excited to see your mother again?” asked Jerry, crossing his arms. 

Venno was silent for a minute, trying to think of how to explain it before shrugging. 

“I don’t know, maybe it’s the fact that she tried to keep the part out where our father hadn’t returned from his hunting trip by trying to argue about how dangerous my job is and how I should be more careful” admitted Venno. 

Jerry hummed in thought before returning his attention back to the interview. 

“You go on ahead and leave the interrogation to me. Go to the archives and ask Scott to find some info about your dad. I’m sure he’ll be able to find something” said Jerry. 

Venno was shocked to hear this, taking a moment to process what the older Spider had said. 

“Wait, but how will he do that? I thought we only keep a record of all denizens who are wanted” said Venno.
