Why I Write

People often ask me what pushes me to write. What is it that makes me write the things I do. I've never felt as if I owed anyone an explanation as to why I write the way I do or even the things that I do. Now that I really think about it, I don't think I ever really had an answer for them. I always knew there was a reason but I never knew how to put it in words. So here's my answer:
We each deal with things in different ways. Some drink, some smoke, some pick fights, some yell, swear and create chaos. Some sleep around with anyone and everyone just to forget it. Some shut themselves off completely. Some go for a run... Or for a walk... Some pick up the phone and call a friend. Some pick up a paint brush or a guitar or even a game controller. And me? I write. I pick up my pen and I write about it. The thing about me writing though is, when i'm done writing about something that's that. I'm done, i'm cleansed and I can move on and not think about it again. Writing is my form of cleansing from all the negative emotions. So yes, sometimes my writing may be a bit dark but that's me... Putting all my negative emotions on paper and it works because I can write about the most horrible things and when i'm finished I always feel better and I rarely ever think about it again.
We all deal with dark stuff, some are just more open about it than others. As for me, I choose to embrace the darkness when it comes.
