1. There will be days that feel like nails in your feet and fire in your lungs. Keep going. Eventually the rusty nails will wither away and the fire will be put out by your tears. You will be able to walk and your lungs will be clean again. Keep going.

2. You will meet a boy and after 3 weeks you will be convinced that you love him. And you will kiss him and his breath will seep into your lungs so that his taste never leaves your mouth. And when he leaves you, you will want to stop breathing forever so you will never be reminded of what once was. Keep breathing. Eventually his taste will be replaced with mint gum and fresh coffee. You'll forget his taste and be glad you did.

3. There will be nights were you lay in bed and swear someone is trying to rip your heart out of your chest and refuse to bandage the wound. Bandage it yourself. Find good friends and new music and fix yourself. Wake up earlier than usual and make warm coffee and go outside and wait for the sunrise. You will see colors you never dreamed of and suddenly you'll find that the hole in your chest no longer hurts.

4. You will make mistakes. Don't let your mistakes label you as a human being. Life is temporary. Your mistakes will soon be forgotten. In a year, no one will remember the time you fell down the stairs in school or when you got drunk at a party and kissed a boy who had a girlfriend. Mistakes happen. Don't let them define you.

5. Emotions are temporary. Emotions do not last forever. You will not be happy forever. Nor will you be sad forever. When you find yourself wishing nothing more than the sweet kiss of death, remember how it felt to be with your closest friends, talking about life and eating double the amount of calories recommended per day. Remember the feelings of joy and nostalgia and excitement. Don't let a bad day ruin a good life.

6. Things are not guaranteed in life... You are not guaranteed that you will wake up tomorrow, nor are you guaranteed that your family will wake up. The only thing we are guaranteed is that the sun will set and the moon will come out, only to have the sun reappear in the morning. Count on that.

7. Keep breathing.
