Muji POV
"I'm telling you Muji really killed it in two blows!"
Jax scoffed.
"Lies! Muji's ratio is 5:5, there's no way he killed the ogre in two blows."
"It's true, I seen it happen."
Adjest chimed in, causing Jax to gasp.
"And I missed it?! Muji what did you do?!"
I ignored him and continued to look down at the ground. Many things in my life haven't made sense up until now, but this was really annoying me.
I'm almost certain that this had to do with Mom constantly showing up in my dreams, but the question is why now?
I had nightmares every now and then, but now this is happening on a daily basis. I'm scared of myself...
"Muji!"
I looked up at Jax.
"I don't know what happened ok?"
"Yeah yeah."
Xander cleared his throat.
"Well it doesn't really matter what happened, since we're all alive."
Iris nodded.
"Indeed. Thankfully none of us have permanent injuries."
Ray drew his blade and pointed it in the sky.
"We shall all become hunters!"
"We still have to take the year long exam idiot."
Everyone began to laugh as I sat there quietly. I felt someone tap my shoulder as I looked to my left, it was Mya.
"You alright? You're quieter than usual."
I let out a sigh.
"I hope so..."
"Hm?"
"I said I'm fine."
Mya poked my cheek, causing me to groan a bit.
"If you need someone to talk too, you know I'm here buddy. We've been stuck at the hip for about half a decade, don't duck on me now."
I nodded and leaned on her shoulder.
"Maybe someday...I'll tell you everything."
"Huh?"
"Nothing."
Mya grabbed my head and laid it on her lap.
"Sleep well Muji. When you wake up this'll all be over."
I nodded and dozed off, feeling the soft thigh pillow beneath me.
Timeskip
"All who have survived, please head back to the building. If you have survived, please report back to the building. You have two days before we completely shut you out."
Mya smiled widely as she jumped up and down.
"You hear that Muji?! We made it! We actually passed the pre exam!"
I nodded with a small smile.
"Karin...Daiki...Kaia...Kyle, I did it. I'll write you guys a letter as soon as possible."
I felt an arm get placed over my shoulder as I looked and seen Jax there.
"You seem less tense."
I nodded.
"I've decided to calm down now that the exam is over."
Adjest laughed a bit.
"So you were on edge the whole time?"
"Indeed. I was prepared to take one of your lives if you tried to harm us."
The atmosphere got heavy, only then did I realize what I said.
"S-Sorry! It wasn't to be mean or anything I just-
"It's fine Muji, we get what you meant."
Everyone began to laugh as I looked down in embarrassment. Mya walked over and linked our arms before smiling.
She held a finger up to her lips with a wink.
"Thanks Muji."
We all walked back into the building before running into a woman. She had a clock in her hand, as if she was waiting for something.
She was tall and wearing what seemed to be a red tracksuit with a red cap on. She had brown hair in a pony tail and black eyes.
She was also chewing on gum.
At first glance, I could tell she was the strongest person I had ever met.
After us, another group of people walked in, there was eight of them. After they walked in, another person walked in on their own.
"This should be all of you."
The door behind us shut, causing me to become on guard a bit.
"Sup kiddos, the name is Alana Shinmon, you can call me Ms Alana or Ms Shinmon. You 16 seem to be the only ones under the age of 18 to pass the pre exam."
Ms Shinmon blew a bubble and popped it before chewing again.
"Now you may think that kids like yourselves taking and passing this exam is rare, which is true, but this year over 1/5 of the applicants were 18 or under."
Mya let out a gasp.
"2,000? And we're the only ones who-
"Exactly. So consider yourselves pretty damn lucky, or skilled, I don't really care. You see, this next year is about to make that exam look like a cakewalk. So if you barely survived, you're fucked, and if you survived by hiding, you're super fucked."
Ms Shinmon spit out her gum as it flew past us and put a small dent in the wall behind us.
"Like I said, my name is Alana Shinmon. Unfortunately I got tasked with baby sitting this year, again, so you better have your pacifiers because I'm not dealing with crybabies. In about an hour, there'll be some carriages here to take us to Boken, the real one, so just sit tight and be good kids."
Everyone broke off into their own little groups as Mya and I sat against the wall.
"Muji, I'm a bit scared."
I raised an eyebrow.
"Why?"
"It's just, everyone else here is strong. I know I wouldn't have made it on my own, and now the real test is beginning. I'm afraid I-
"Mya, you'll be fine."
I placed my hand on her head and smiled.
"I won't let anything happen to you."
Mya blushed a bit and grabbed my hand.
"If you're always protecting me, who's gonna protect you?"
"Me of course."
"Shut up Muji."
